After playing lead guitar for many years I recently switched over to bass and play about 80% minor penatonic blues scales and it sounds real cool with a three piece band (Classic Rock and Blues). I recently sat in with a metal band that wanted me only to play one string time with the drums. Is this the usual? Thanks.

Different styles of playing for different music really I guess. Bu if you were just standing in maybe they just wanted you to hold down the bass and keep the rhythm and not get too complex?

Or have I misunderstood the question? :p

Your probably right Ally, I guess I was a little disappointed and expected a little more freedom.
