I know most here have seen the Geddy Lee signature Jazz, the Steve Harris Precision, and the Sting Single Coil Precision bass too. But, since Fender's been doing these there have been some that for one reason or the other never came out in any kind of appreciable quantities.

Has anyone here ever seen of owned the Don "Duck" Dunn signature edition? Fender put out one, before he put his name on a Lakland signature model. I even had copy of Fender Frontline from around the late '90's to around 2003 at the latest, it seems that had a picture of a Francis "Rocco" Prestia model.

I think that the Duck Dunn model was Candy Apple Red and the Rocco model had a amber clear finish over an Ash body with the split coil mounted in "reverse" order, with the E-A coil farther back towards the bridge and the D-G coil closer to the neck. I have actually seen a real Duck Dunn out here in the real world, but only once, and I have never seen the Prestia model, never talked to anyone who ever has, what was the deal with these, are any still out here? Just curious if anyone here has seen any of these.

Being a huge Duck fan I really wanted one. Saw one used at a Charlotte guitar store about 1999, the store is long since closed. They were Japanese made. They were VERY limited.

I've heard that they made 400 but I don't think 400 of them made it to the USA. That was for the WORLD. Sometimes they pop up on eBay. They seem to be based on his candy apple red 58 or 59 (not sure which year) but there is no third strap button on the back of the headstock. The one I played didn't impress me much but I think if you upgraded the pickup and cap it would be great. If I ran across one at a good price I'd buy it.

The original Fender spiel about it is preserved here: http://www.harmony-central.com/Events/WNAMM98/Fender/Donald-Duck-Dunn.html

I've saved some photos of one that was for sale. Here they are. (Bridge and pickup covers were not original to this bass.)

Here's a little update on the Rocco Prestia model, I was told by someone that they thought that it's production was so limited that none were released into the American market, Fender killed the idea pretty early into it. Rocco was seen playing it in the '98 bass day video. Here's some specs and a small picture of him playing it live.

Specifications
・Body…Alder
・Pickguard…Black-white-black, 10 screws
・Color…Black, Natural, Crimson Transparent
・Pick-ups…1 reversed vintage split-coil PU (mid)
・Controls…1 Volume, 2 Treble boost/cut, 1 Bass boost/cut,
        Black special knobs
・Bridge…String-through-body/top-loading
・Machine Heads…Deluxe

Ive got one of the Rocco models, and am now looking for more info on it.

Had no idea what it was when I brought it, the dealer also didn't notice it was a reversed pick up and I fully expected to see routing under the pickguard, which of course there isn't.

Dee Dee Ramone signature Precision had but a single run and is gone.

The Nate Mendel Precision had a two or three year run and is now gone.

I was wondering about those signature bass models like the Nate Mendel the other day and also noticed they weren't on the site.

There are a few things that aren't on the site anymore, and not necessarily Sig. models either. I guess the revamping of the bass series are beginning.

I, too, figure that we will see the introduction of new models in the near future. I am anxious to see what they will be offering.

I've also noticed some Squier models gone, too.

I'm wondering what's in the future for Fretless Fenders as well.

The last time I checked, they still offered the Standard Series Jazz Fretless, the Jaco model, and maybe the Tony Franklin model, too. I'd have to check on that one. They might come out with another one. You never know.

You summed that up pretty well.
