Welcome to the forum yiyosonico!

Fender Japan instruments during this period were alder, except for the see-through-blonde finished ones which were ash. So unless yours was blonde and if it is in fact the original body, then it should be alder. In 1990 Fender Japan started using basswood. But for an instrument with that serial alder would be the wood specified for all but blonde finishes. It is possible that someone swapped necks onto a post 90 body which of course would make that a basswood body. However from what I can see of the body wood I'm guessing alder.

Nice bass.

Hi Kieran, i bought a pait remover in home depot for OLD WOOD, it is less agressive than the regular ones, but i forgot the name coz i've already trashed the can; I did revarnish it, i used nitrocellulose. the remove of the paint was easy, but the revarnish wasnt that easy beacause the nitro is difficulto to use. I spend around $5dlls in both products, so i think it is cheap.

I hope I help you, Greets from Mexico

Yiyo
