I ,ve only been playing bass for a couple of years but i do have 2 U.S. jazzes.a Ric,a Hofner,a 5-string G-L,a Mexi prec. and an aerodyne p special.Next week i,m getting a road worn precision, from my dealer, sight unseen based solely on the good reviews and coments on this bass.I truly believe anyone who can afford a variety of quality basses should do so.

I have both, a 2008 Precision and a 2009 Rickenbacker 4003.
I love both of them, but no other bass has that open low mid growl that a good precision bass has.
My Ric is thight ,punchy and articulate and I think it sounds great. It does have a ton of bottom end but it's a rounder low end. The Precision has a more rigid, growly bottom end with a barky midrange and believe it or not, cutting highs with the right set of roundwounds.
You can check out some videos of both my precisions here.
The new 2008 Precision and a American series 57' reissue Precision in transparent white with an ash body.

A passive P Bass is the ultimate design of simplicity. It also has a long standing of excellence and tradition. Styles come and go but a P Bass can hold it's own in many venues. 80% of what a bass can do is the musicians talent as far as I am concerned. A Ric is a great bass and now a-days there are many well built and designed basses to choose from. But the old Fender P is too good not to own at least one.

The sound of a P-bass sits in almost any musical situation.

Why not have both? I only have 2 basses - one's a Tony Frankln Fretless P bass and one's a Ric 4001C64S. I'm very happy with both - no significant GAS for anything else. Trying to upload a photo of both without success.
