Hi there

I resently got my first fender and its a American Vintage '62 Precision Bass.
One thing that I find strange is the behavior of the volume knob. All the volum seems to be packed at the end, that is to say, when I turn the knob from silent to full loudness, all of the volume comes from the last 3-5 mm of the cycle. Is this normal or is the knob faulty.
I know that it could be non linear circut but this is kind of extreme. I dont think I could set the correct volum on the fly. I realy have to be careful to get the right settings.

Hope someone knows what this is all about

Fender basses come stock with audio (logarithmic) taper pots. This is a common problem with audio taper pots. You can replace the volume with a linear 250k pot. Just make sure you keep the tone logarithmic.

Thank you for the information anubis16

This is a brand new reissue.
1. Is it normal to have problems like these on a new instrument?
2. Could this have something to do with the impedance of amps input stage?

regs from iceland.

1. Yes, it is normal for this on new Fender instruments since they pretty much all use logarithmic volume pots.

2. I'm not sure, I'm sure there is a nuance to this that I'm unaware of. This is an issue with every stock Fender bass I've picked up, but it seems to effect some more than others. I'm not sure what the cause is.
