Hello fellow bassists. I just purchased a new Aerodyne Classic Precision Bass Special for $600.00 and I think it's a great bass. The only fault I find with it is the stock bridge which allows lateral movement of the strings from time to time. The body of the bass has a radius or arched top which requires the bridge to sit in a recess to allow the bridge to sit flat. My intention is to replace the bridge with a drop-in Gotoh 201 bridge which is slightly larger than the bridge recess. I really don't want to "dremel" the recess any larger than it is but I certainly would like the bridge to make full contact with the bass body,...any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I'm certainly no expert however it looks as if any of those "70's era" replacement bridges will do the job for you.

There's some great stuff here:

I know people who rave about Quan Bridges, which I believe require minimal to no modifications on some instruments. I'm not sure if this is the case with your Aerodyne Classic, but it's worth a look into.

A trip to your local, trusted repair person or shop may profit you, too.

As much as I love my Fenders, I have to say, those bridges are the parts which least impress me. Those "heavier" bridges they put on some of the custom models, like the Walnut P Basses with the fat "tonebar" sound sooooooo good:

Hi Yurei.

Thanks for the info. Through trial and error and a bit of creative engineering, I was able to install the Gotoh 201 bridge on my Aerodyne and what a major positive difference it made in the sound of this bass.
