I just picked up this '79 Black P-Bass in a pawnshop for $180 out the door. This is the same place I picked up a '74 Sunburst Jazz Bass in May of '08 for and incredible $64.64 out the door. Any way the P-Bass has an original neck, neck plate, body, pots and tuners. The pickguard, pickups, and bridge have all been changed out. The pickups are older Dimarzios. The bridge is an older Schaller with roller saddles.I need to know what do I need to do to the neck to protect it. Do I use some type of oil, or do I need to spray it to keep the moisture from ruining it? Anyway you comments would be welcomed. Here's the pics of the P and Jazz.

Wow! Man youare livin'right to score two classic Fender basses at those prices!

Doesn't the Pawn shop in question have internet capability?
I thought they all did these days.

A simple ebay search would've priced those basses above one maybe $2K .

I would check back often at that place! What a deal.

Welcome to the forum and congratulations!

I'd visit them at least every few days. Or give them your phone number and have them call you when they are bringing a Fender out of pawn. Then I'd sell some of them on eBay and put my son through college. LOL.

Also I'd get the police to run the serials to make sure they are not stolen.

My question is where is this pawn shop? All the pawn shops in my area want to charge an arm and a leg. Congrats on the great finds. :)

Wow - nice pick-up! Maybe, um, share some of the wealth...? Let us know when they next have something similar?!
