Just wondering who out there is playing a P-bass plus? I got a one a few years back for $100 bucks in pretty rough shape. Body and neck where still sound, it has the beautiful (and in remarkably good shape considering some of the other things I had to fix) Blue Burst finish, and I just couldn't let it go so after 2 weeks of going to the music shop every couple days to play it I bought it.

I've cleaned it up nice, had to replace the tuning pegs with some Grovers and the pickguard needs to be replaced because its cracked, but besides that and a screw or two here and there its all original.

This beauty is now my main bass, I personally think it is one of the best Fender has made, truly melding the best of the P-bass and the J-bass with out making any sacrifices, plus extending it to a 22 fret.

Anyway, like I said before, who else has one? I'm alwas keeping an eye out for them and they seem hard to come by these days. I have yet to see another one in the blue finish, for awhile actually thought it was maybe repainted.

A lot of people believed that the Blue Burst Pluses are by all points the most coveted Precisions ever made, especially the maple-neck models.

The following photo illustrates an exquisite example of an early 1990s Blue Burst Precision Plus Bass featuring a warm-sounding rosewood fretboard glued into a one-piece maple neck:

The Blue Burst finish was also available on the American Deluxe models with the big 'bucker in the bridge until 1997/98, as shown on this fine 1997 ash-bodied P-Bass below:

Note the striking visual appeal of the Blue Burst finish over a snappy ash body. The moto pickguard on this particular Deluxe is very cool.

I've had mine for a few months now.. received it as a trade and partial gift from a relative Fender collector. Traded my American Vintage '62 reissue jag for it

I love it, plays and sounds amazing and it has one of the coolest finishes I've ever seen on a Fender.

I've never heard of a P-bass plus. I just bought a P-bass special that looks a lot like the "plus". I wish this model was available in a 5-string.

I like it 98%. The other 2% that I really HATE - is the weight and the inexpensive knobs. Holy Moly! It's HEAVY. The knobs keep coming loose and falling off. It's extremely annoying.

I removed that horrible looking gold guard immediately and had a white pearl custom made for mine. (Oh yeah, that Ampeg micro-stack is the bomb!) The B-Dec 30 behind it just sits unplayed - absolutely too cumbersome to use.

This is a Black Burst Plus.

I've seen several Blue and Black Burst Pluses on many Websites and this particular one with the slim maple neck feels just gorgeous. Sadly, I never saw the American Deluxes made from 1995 to 1998 having this beautiful Black Burst finish.

There was an American Deluxe Precision with 5 strings. It came with two different tuner configurations, 5-in-line and 4 over 1 (as of 2002). Fender has stopped making these basses in 2007.

I'm not sure Fender will make a Deluxe Active P-Bass Special as a 5-string.

The Mexico factory had built a short-lived 5-string Zone Bass for a brief period in 2003/04. They had recently launched a passive American Standard along with a Squier version featuring a pair of Jazz Bass pickups!

BTW, if you dislike the knobs so much, just replace them.

I do not like that gigantic pup next to the P. No worries. Just wish there was an inexpensive 5-string P/J under $1000.

Yup it's a blueburst. Just putting the feelers out there: has anyone seen what these are currently going for? I might be looking to part with it soon.

I have a blueburst too! I'll put pics up tomorrow just to prove it. I think I paid £350ish (550$) but that was about 10 years ago. There's a couple of paint chips on the edges an marks on the neck, 2 of the fine tune pegs are missing and 2 of the tuning pegs from the machine head are replaced. So it's not in perfect condition. No idea what they're worth now but it's my baby and I'd never part with it.

Used to own one of those blubeburst Special P's with a maple board. Don't remember when I sold it or why. Foolish.

The 2010 American Deluxe saw a return to the much beloved P/J pickup layout. Fender has finally dropped the infamous humbucker pickup of the older Deluxes, but removed the 22nd fret from the new model and replaced the classier-looking abalone dots with black micarta (maple) and clay pearloid (rosewood) dot markers.

Image

Of course everyone can replace the N3s with EMGs, Barts and Lace Sensors. The humbucker-equipped Deluxes disallowed that possibility.

Personally I consider the N3s as a serious improvement over the previous noiseless pickups, even if they're not as 100% perfect.

Here's a beautiful Precision Bass Plus (not mine) in the ultra-rare Mystic Black finish. This particular bass was made in 1992.
