Hey guys, I'll post this here because the next bass i'll get(real soon) is a p bass, and my favourite bass player is john deacon from queen(he always plays a p bass). My question is: Is there anything bad or wrong about putting picks underneath your pickguard? John Deacon always had these blue picks under his P bass sort of close to the neck. But i've done it on my cheap Squier jazz bass and it sort of scratched up the place were I put the picks. I can live with some little scratches but is there anything really bad about doing this?
Thanks, it's more to copy the look of john(Mostly use my fingers)

You've answered your own question in terms of scratches. Otherwise, there is nothing under that area of the pickguard that wedged picks can disrupt.

You aslo need to consider that it may warp the pickguard. That happened to me
I wouldn't do it, at leasty not anymore.

Unnecessary tension under the pick guard can start to loosen the screws, or worse yet, strip the wood around the screws.
