Hi there...
I'm 16 (17 on 06-06-1993) and I've been playing bass guitar for about 6 years...I started off with a normal Squier bass.
I then decided I would try out a fretless bass (Seemed like an alright idea @ the time, aha) So I went and brought an Ibanez SDGR (fretless-obviously) I've had it now for roughly 2 years and I hav just started a new rock/punk/alternative band and its absolute shite 2 use...
So I was wondering if anyone knows where I can find a Fender precision (brand new) for less than £300, hell, maybe even less than £200.
If not, then I shall just have 2 buy a squier jazz bass, as they are cheap but good

peace

Welcome.

Please don't take this sarcastically but you, "shall just have 2 buy a squier jazz bass, as they are cheap but good".

IMO you will not go wrong the Squier Vintage Modified and Classic Vibe series of basses. They are quite affordable and really are a solid bass. I have a VM P-Bass and was very impressed with it's quality, finish, playability, and feel. Just because it bears the Squier name does not mean it is not worth looking at or owning.

Squiers are good instruments, and has a good value too.. but of course hardware and body wood has the big difference between fender and squiers

I to think Squire is the way to go. I have an american standard p-bass and a squire fretless jazz bass, I play both. I use the P-bass for standard tuneing and the squire for songs we play a step down. But yes Squire is a very good bass at very good price.

Tone is WHERE YOU FIND IT. A vintage Fender. A Squier that Fender snobs might look down upon, or even my favored gig axe that is little more than a Chinese sneeze of a knockoff.

If you like it. Who gives a dang about anything else.

I mean isn't it about US? The bass players?

WHO makes the butts wiggle? WE DO. What tells the rest of the band what the heck is going on? WE DO.

We need to play WHATEVER we feel most comfortable playing so we can tell everyone else WHAT THE HELL TO DO and WHEN.

Squire versus Mexican...is NOT the issue. It is bass versus bass no matter WHERE it was made or by what company.

I've seen two of the same model bass made in the same plant side by side and there is no comparison between the two. One is better.

Find that one.

If you're willing and capable to a little resto, you can find some good deals on some early 90s and 80s fenders out there. I got a P-bass plus for $200 and but no more then 50 bucks into it after that. It is now my main bass and I actually kinda enjoy it more just simply because I put the elbow grease into it.

Skip the Squire... find a used Fender Standard or better second hand somewhere. It will be a better investment if you have to sell it later.
