Can anyone recommend a brand and model of headphones that won't get blown out by volume? I know if I would listen at a reasonable level there would be no issues, but I can;t, love that thump.

Any AKG headphones are great, whether youre using them for an amp or with an MP3 player. So much detail in the sound.

Thanks for the reply, my Sony's are just about shot. I use the headphone out from a Rumble 60. It's a good practice amp, run a line from my computer or MP3 and wife doesn't threaten me.

I practice through my pedalboard into a mixer and then into my computer so I can play along with recorded tracks or record my own tracks.

In my experience you need SEALED EAR phones for the best sounding bass tone. The kind that seal around the ears.

I'm currently using a $20 pair of Sony MDR-V150 Studio Monitor headphones that seal around the ear. I bought them at Wal-Mart and they sound great. I wouldn't try and mix an album with them but they really have strong bass. Previous to those I was using a pair of much heavier Koss Pro 4-AA headphones that cost over $100 and actually I think the cheaper Sony set sounds as good and is far more comfortable.

Any of the "Walkman" type with the foam pads that just sit on top of the ears without sealing around the ears are NOT good for bass no matter the brand. The in-the-ear type like the IPOD phones are even worse.

AKG, Beyer, Koss, Sony and Sennheiser all make sealed ear phones. For $20 I'm very please with the lightweight and comfort of the Sony set. They sound really clean for playing along to recorded tracks and are very loud.

I'm using the same headphones, even bought them at the same place, Walmart. I run through a Tech 21 into the Rumble 60. I go from the computer to the RCA inputs and use the Headphone out on the amp.

The problem is, they're ready to blow. I can't be content with reasonable volume and EQ, I was asking for something sturdy that could handle the load.

While I'm here, another question, why is my connection from my computer so noisy? When I use an MP3 player or CD player, no noise. I even bought gold ends thinking that would help but it didn't.

By the way, thanks for the response, i appreciate the help.

Sent Ox a long winded email. Essentially telling him to upgrade the computer sound card. All of the stock on board sound chips suck on computers.

I agree - I've used many AKG models - for all kinds of applications - and never had any problems at all.

Check out the Sony MDR-XB500, they'll rock your ears.

Skull Candy headphones, if your headphone output is not that loud. These are very sensitive. They're foldable. Their market is the skateboard/snowboard crowd. I love these things.

Shure SRH440, full coverage headphones. I just got these, surprised the heck out of me. I was just listening to John Mayer's concert on the Dave Letterman soundstage and the P-bass supporting him and Stanley Jordan's kick drum were righteous in these cans. In fact the entire drum kit sounded like a drum kit. These are a great match for the sound card in my Macbook Pro. The sound was not bass heavy, but everything was there, including some of the rustling from the audience.

Sennheiser HD280 Pro, full coverage headphones. I used these for a long time for critical listening. Damaged them in a move, fell back on my Sony MDR7506 cans.

Sony MDR 7506. They sit ON the ears, but the cushions are soft; some people are bothered by them, I can wear them a long time without fatigue.

PROformance P6000, another pair that sits on the ears, not around them. I have no idea why I bought these, really. You'll have to look them up on the 'net, I just keep them handy just in case.

I just looked it up; those PROformance P6000 cans are from Audio Technica, which is why I bought them now that I remember. Sucked in by a mic company's brand name. Oh well, in the Shure SRH440's case it worked.
