Thank-you Gentlemen, now I'd like to ask a question. Not a bassist yet, really just a guitar hack with 10 guitars, 6 amps, pedals out the yang and a pretty nice drum kit.

The 18v (I assume this is 2 nine volt batteries in series?) 'active EQ'...thought I'd understood that the pickups themselves are not 'active' (like EMG's on 6 string guitars that actually have the dc applied to the pickup coils) but rather 'passive' (pickups magnetic field is developed simply by the magnet slug the coil's are wrapped around) and that the dc is only used in the equalization/tone control circuit.

But I've read some things where either others are confused or I am.

Are my initial thoughts correct or is one or both of these pickups 'active'?

I'm sorry, I don't have insight into your question.

I have a question for you though. I'm considering an American Deluxe Precision and am curious about your case. Is that the one that came with it? I was looking at the specs and it just says it comes with a molded case. On the American Standard specs, it says it comes with the SKB case that your picture shows.

Thanks!

That's something I overlooked, glad you asked. I wrote Fender customer relations last night after reading it. Here's the response. (I love these guys...have written on a handful of occasions and they've always responded immediately).

Yes,

Unfortunately, the Standard does come with a better case. The Standard was upgraded, and marketing felt that the newer case would add to the overall appeal of the new design.

Take care Dave,

The bass I bought is pre-loved, described as mint, and is still in Indianapolis. I'll not bring up the question of the case unless this beautiful American arrives in one other than what's pictured.

Interesting, thanks!

I think I'm going to end up buying the exact same bass (different S/N, of course  ) Montego Black/Maple and all. Thanks for sharing your pics!

You're welcome Andy. I'll post another in a week or so with it next to my other Fender.

Actually for the last year or so I thought wanted a '57 reissue in natural blonde oly white ash.

As mentioned, I'm not a bass player...yet. But I've always been aware of P basses. I'm also now also fully aware of the quality of the American Deluxe series. (Have had that version of Strat, S/S/S, for a year and a half now...it's exquisite).

Coupled with the addition of the bridge humbucker and what I read about the active EQ...

I'd guess you've done your homework and have come to the same conclusion as I. No bass reads as well regarding reviews by bass players.

I think we've both made/are about to make very wise choices...and I've already had several women compliment me on the looks of this bass.

i think the pickups themselves are passive plus an onboard EQ where you can tweak the sound without getting to the amplifier.. unlike the standard passive which is only Volume/Volume and Tone Control..

it is interesting...the bass I purchased is pictured in an SKB case as well...but that's the response Fender sent. It shipped out and is to arrive Monday, so I'll know then
