I have a Standard Mexican P-Bass with a bridge that is more or less ruined due to a lack of prudence when I was 16, and I was wondering if I would be able to buy a new HMV bass bridge and install it without having to drill new holes or make any major adjustments. Has anyone tried doing this who can offer some advice?

The HMV bridge will work on a MIM but you will have to have new holes drilled. What exactly is the problem with your current bridge?

If you can still get your hands on a Badass II or a one of the Gotoh Fender replacements, you can just pop that stuff on without having to drill holes.

I'm not sure if you are partial to the keeping it all fender though.

There's also Hipshot bridges.. or if you want cheaper replacements Wilkinson Bridges will do.. or Gotoh201 a cheaper version of the BadAssII but the thing about Gotoh201 is intonation problem..

Well, I let it get wet a couple of times and now all of the saddle pieces are bad, and since I was going to replace those I thought an upgrade to the bridge wouldn't hurt and was looking at an HMV.

That's the first that I've heard of an intonation problem with the 201. All the gripes I have seen are that the saddle barrells are too big, not allowing for real low action. I have a 201 and I swapped the saddles on the E, A, & D strings with the saddles from another bridge. Problem solved.

To be honest, lets face it here guys, we like our bass to look nicer...all the claim in the world about the BadAss could be true, my ears aren't a made to tell you how much better the BadAss is, but it does look nice ;) As far as the Gotoh 201, it doesn't look as nice to me compared to the BadAss II or III but I had no problem with intonation - actually I think it was easier to set than the BadAss. For looks I vote for the BadAss II (or III) for ease of intonation setting, I'd vote for the Gotoh 201.
