i thought it was just me but a saw a lighter gauge than the labella's fl's.. looks to me the elderly does have a decent supply but some gauges are missing like those drs and rotosound.. but im getting my eyes on that labella extra lights... i don't know what that sounds though..

and speaking of carol kaye I'm pretty much as fan of hers especially those bop jazz... she's a legend... and i can't believe that she can sing while doing those chordal notes..

well TI's would be my first choice and I checked about tension stuff they're even lighter than Chrome lights... like all i can say is.. wow..

The tension on the TI JF344's is so low that they are almost floppy.

When switching between traditional strings and the Jazz Flats I tend to overplay the Jazz Flats. Takes some getting used to.

are TI flats heavier than .40 light rounds?

The TI JF344 set is .043/.056/.070/.100. So they feel medium to medium light. The thing is that when tuned to pitch the string tension is ultra low and probably the lowest of any string I've ever used. They are not perfectly flat either as they feel a bit like a ground wound set. They play, sound and feel different from any other string I've ever used. They last indefinitely so while they cost more than about any other set, in the long run you'll be buying way less of them. They are very good for pick playing.

I recorded the same piece that I've been working on using a bass setup with TI Jazz Flats so you can hear the difference between them and the GHS Regular gauge flats. The Jazz Flats are on an otherwise 100% stock Ibanez SRX700 which has active EQ. On this demo the pickups are set to the center balanced detent, the bass tone is also set at the center detent throughout. During the intro the treble is set to the center flat detent and then just barely cracked for the rest of the recording. No changes were made in the pedalboard, mixer or or recording software processing other than clicking in the ACTIVE pad on the Aphex Punch Factory pedalboard compressor. You can clearly hear how different the two string sets sound. Of course the instruments make a big difference too, but the brighter character of the TI Jazz Flats is apparent even with the treble on the active SRX rolled almost completely off after I get through the intro. You can also hear that I'm a tad more in the pociket but still not totally there all the time.

One more demo. With Thomastik-Infeld EB344 PowerBass Roundwound strings. Decided I'd let your hear my FAVORITE strings on my favorite gigging bass. She's battered but still plays and sounds great. JT401 with Seymour Duncan SCPB3 Quarter Pounder, Sprague Vitamin-Q cap, CTS pots and Switchcraft jack. Anyone who has seen me play live over the past five years sees this bass, named BLONDINE a LOT. This is the only bass I own that is NOT for sale.

brotherdave how long has the thomastik rounds been on the bass? they sound very warm, not like the new sets that would be a little bit zingy..

as for the TI's and the GHS, i'd prefer the distinct brightness of the TI's they sound sweet.. the GHS sounds more on the bottom end.. both sound great but different..

About 18 months old. I use foam under them when new for several months, maybe up to 6 months. When I take them off and put a new set on it really doesn't make that big a difference other than the harmonics and undesirable overtones are back, which I don't want anyway.

On that demo I had the tone just barely cracked and a ton of compression which kills highs anyway. I really don't know how long they last. Have another set of them that is nearly 4 years old on another bass and still sounding fat and warm and just play great. I also have two new sets, so I could change them if I wanted to, but I don't think I actually need to yet. I think they sound perfect right now.

4 years and yet they play well? anyways it wouldn't matter if the bass is muted, and it well suits the p bass, in terms of bottom and warmth...

are those rounds softer than the thomastik flats?

i couldn't find a set ot ti's and ghs anywhere.. off to try a d'addario chrome 40-100 soon... anyone uses these?

Yes they are about 4 years old. I play that bass on some demos. It is an Ibanez TRB70 with a P/J setup, PIO caps and copper shielding but otherwise stock. It records very well.

The Round TI EB344 PowerBass strings are slightly higher tension than the JF344 Jazz Flats which I consider FLOPPY. I think the EB344's are the PERFECT string for live stuff and tops in the FEEL category which is important to me when playing live. They are ALIVE strings. There is some finger noise like all rounds, but you can get around it with foam and EQ. They are the most durable string I've ever used. I've actually TRIED to break them and can't. The EB344 PowerBass set is a simply incredible string and possible the best all-around string ever.

The only TI string I ever used that didn't impress out of the box and over the LONG haul was the IN344 INFELD SuperAlloy set. Just sounds vanilla from day 1. There is a reason the Thomastik name appears NOWHERE on the package for the Infeld IN344 set. You'd be better off with Ernie Balls than those things. Just no life to them.

guys question by the way.. can fender highway one or american standard with posiflex handle the La Bella Jamerson's? well JJ himself warped his P bass but can graphite reinforced rods be strong enough to withstand the tension of the strings from warping the neck?

Should help quite a bit. BUT, using Labella 760M's is at your own risk EC. I would suggest alternates just to be on the safe side. After trashing a bunch of necks with the 760M's over the decades I've found other strings I can live with quite comfortably. Thomastik-Infeld JF344, GHS 3050 REGULAR and TI EB344. nah I never really liked jamerson flats or even the regulars... seeing .50's gives me the creeps..
even the medium gauges freaks me out... or maybe I'm just used to light gauges..

TI's sound kinda middy... and well they have less tension (i like that)

GHS sounds deeper and gives a vintage sound to it...
