Hi,

I've just bought my first vintage Fender, it's a 1968 Precision Bass (oval tuners!), and I have a few questions that I hope someone can help me with. Everything is original except for maybe the bridge and the pickguard, which is where my questions come along.

The serial number is 247384, neck is dated March 68, pickups April 68 and the pots 42 week of 66. OK!

First of all, the bridge. It looks normal, 4 threated saddles, with
the 2 center saddle screws closer to each other compared to the outer ones, and attached with 5 screws. But notice how the saddle screws aren't straight. The saddles seem to be too large and they are pushing each other outwards. Is this right?

My other question concerns the pickguard. Does the pickguard look original to you? I had my doubts because around some of the edges it looks slightly too small, it's tugging on some of the screws and in places the shielding plate is visible underneath. I've read about old pickguards shrinking, so this maybe the case and it could be original. What do you think?

Thank you!

Ted
