well, it's almost been a month now since I brought my Road Worn P-Bass home and all I can say is that I never thought my addiction to P-Basses would be quite this bad.

the thing plays and sounds unbelievable and now I'm finding myself checking out all the local shops just to go in and play any and all P-Basses that are in stock.

I've definitely had my "road to Damascus" moment with this bass and Fender in general.

:P

The thing that is so crazy for me is that I started out on a P-bass (Squire then a MIJ Fender) and played one or the other for almost 8yrs. I then traded the P-bass for a G&L SB-2 which was a great bass but for me the pickups were just a little to hot for me. However, I played that bass off and on for about 7yrs after which I bought a Ernieball SUB (stingray style passive model) and later that same year traded the G&L for an Ernieball SUB Sterling. Last year my wife bought me a Squire VM Jazz for my birthday and I was hooked once again on the Fender sound.

My VM Jazz is great but once I got the Highway One P-bass that was it for me. The sound is perfect and I can't believe I spent 14yrs trying to find what I basically already had. I guess you could say better late then never LOL.

I hear that, my first bass was an old BC Rich N.J. Series with a single P p/up. Since then I've had a whole whack of other basses and everything BUT a P-Bass.... then I got my Road Worn and went... Ahhhhhhh, this is the sound I've been trying to get back to!! As Donald Fagen was sang "Home at last" 8)

And last but not least I am looking for a better amp and that really will be the last piece of the puzzle for me. But even with what I have currently since getting the p-bass it sounds much better. Ampeg B2R/Ampeg 6x10HLF

The cab you have is a really good one. I can't see upgrading that unless you just want to. The USA made Ampeg HLF cabs always sounded great with a P-bass.

I'm curious about whether you have a B2R or the updated B2RE. I replaced an SVTII rack tube amp with the B2RE when they first came out with the updated "E" version. While it is certainly not even half as loud as the tube head it has been 100% reliable and the maintenance has been zero for nearly 4 years which I can say of no tube amp I've ever had. Basically it is a stage monitor 98% of the time anyway and the direct out feeds the PA. I played a small club with just one 8 ohm cab last week instead of the regular 2 cabs and it was just barely OK with no direct out. The fact it was less than half the weight of the previous tube amp and would be zero maintenance are still big plus factors though. However it just barely can get the job done unless you run it at 4 ohms. I won't try gigging it with just one 8 ohm cab again for sure.

I can say for sure is that my next head will not be an Ampeg because they are being made in Asia now. I've been gigging with Ampeg heads exclusively since 1971, so that will be unfamiliar territory.

I've been reading about the 37 pound Peavey VB-3 ALL TUBE head. Anyone try one yet?
