Is it possible to get the clangy pick sound of Duff McKagan with a passive precision bass?

What kind of things help to get this sound? would a quarter pounder seymour duncan help?

Yep. Another thing (and a lot more expensive) would be to run it through a GK800RB head and I think a 4x10 with a 1x15. Duff had a cool bass tone especially on the Guns first album. I'm showing my age but I was a huge fan when Appetite was first released and they opened for Motley Crue. The Fender Jazz Bass Special (the Duff sig model) was a midpriced bass at that time and I loved the fact that he was able to get such a raw cool tone with his rig as compared to other bassplayers playing (and getting endorsed by) my more expensive basses and amp rigs.

Ah thanks guys. yeh well i have a classic vibe p bass, maybe it's worth considering putting in a seymour duncan. Also, not like duff Mckagan's sound, but the bassist singer of tokyo police club, has not an active tone, but a trebly (not always) somewhat hollow or scooped pick sound. Im just using a zoom b2.1u pedal with headphones. to achieve these types of sounds, should i crank up the treble, or reduce the mids, becuase this seems to get closer to the sounds. check out this club. This is the 2nd most important tone i want apart frm mckagans :)

(I WOULD LOVE THIS TONE ANY HELP MUCH APPRECIATED)

maybe the zoom pedal probs wont give it, n i might need a pod or sumthing

You really shouldnt have to much trouble achieving that tone. Duff used stock Fender pickups on his bass. But also keep in mind that the Duff bass had a special TBX(I think thats what it was called) tone control which I think (again dont take me to the bank on that LOL) could boost the high or mids. The Fender Jazz Special was IMO a very innovative bass produced by Fender at the time. What kind of amp and speaker cabs are you running? This will make a big overall difference. I can't say enough good things about 10inch speakers.
