Hi!

I am trying to duplicate the sound of Green Day bassist Mike Dirnt and I feel I am fairly close, but still not sure if everything is correct and thus how it will sound in the final mix.

I know Dirnt plays with pick on a Fender P-Bass through a Mesa Boogie. I know he likes to boost the 2khz on the EQ but I know almost nothing really about the amp settings.

How about Mids, Bass and Treble? Since he boosts 2khz, there shouldnt really be much need of treble or am I wrong?

Also is there any frequency settings he uses on his amp?

What about highs and lows settings?

I am very curious about EQ settings too. Is everything just flat and only a boost at 2khz?

Please, only answers from people who know. I have asked around a lot and usually only get "play hard with the pick and boost treble" kind of answers...

Thank you

Welcome to the forum.

Some other components in his tone:
Fender Medium Nickel Plated Bass Strings, sometimes GHS Boomers
Shure ULX Wireless
Custom Audio Electronics Switcher
Custom "Dirnt" Dunlop Tortex Picks .76 mm and .88 mm
Zinky Master Blaster Boost Pedal
Zinky True Grit Overdrive Pedal
Star attitude

Not to mention SD Antiquity II pickup and a really honking vintage P-bass named Stella.

Good luck!

I know all about the equipment and I see your point but in my opinion it is not really necessary to come fairly close. I don't need the exact sound, I just want to do as much as I can do correct to come as close as I possibly can with what I have and I have in my opinion come pretty close. Still, it would be cool to know the exact settings on the amp and EQ. That is what I want to know. I don't really care much about what strings and picks he's using. But thank you.
