Hi guys, I am new here and in need of advice. I have small hands, so I am wondering if the American deluxe has closer frets vs the American standard?

By closer frets I'm only guessing you mean closer together.

The scale length is the same with 34 inches on each. The 2 extra frets are additions on the end of the neck that is near the body of the bass. The overall instrument length is the same. Space between frets 1 through 20 is the same on both. Otherwise one would not intonate correctly.

If you mean the actual size of the fretwire, both use the same medium-jumbo size frets.

For smaller players Fender has some options. The Fender Mustang Bass has a 30 inch scale and so does the Squier Bronco.

There was also a USA made Fender Bronco 30 inch scale at one time but it was discontinued a long time ago.

Another short scale bass I liked was the long discontinued Hagstrom Futurama.

Epiphone makes some short scale basses too. I think the Epi EBO is 30.5 inch scale. Also the Gibson Ripper is a short scale bass if you can find one.

Smaller hands might like the smaller vintage-size frets on the Fender Vintage series like the 51 Precision Reissue.

All of that information is true. Just one small thing that is kind of unrelated to the question at hand and kind of a small point. The overall length of the am. deluxe basses are actually a little bit longer, maybe by 2 or so inches, because the bridge actually starts higher on the body than most basses. I guess the logic is to have an easier time reaching the higher frets.

It's a minor point, but I'd figure I'd throw it out there.
