I have a 74-75 P Bass and I had someone notice in these photos

http://www.23hours.com/70sPrecision.html

that there is red peeking out from under the black paint. The black paint looks original to me but they think it may have been repainted. Just taking a long shot here, but is anyone aware of Fender using red primer on basses? Or anything about why red would be peeking out? Thanks,

I read in bass player of some basses from that era (roughly - i thoink it was a 64 though) being panted bright orangey red and then being recalled and repainted.

More than likely just primer though, my bass was blue before its final coat.

Some use a colored primer to make the black stand out more, A painter buddy told me about that

it's the same idea as polishing a pair of black shoes with some brown polish. Adds a bit more depth to it. About ever 2 months I'll polish my Docs with brown.
