Okay, here's the deal. I have a 1996 P-Bass with a bad neck. It's missing half of the finish on it, and it doesn't play very good. This specific neck has 22 frets. I need a matte, unfinished neck with the rosewood stripe on the back that also has the modern-style headstock. Any information will be appreciated.

P.S.- Warmoth and Allparts always give me problems, so i prefer not to order from them.

Headstock = the "modern" one.
And I love the 70s style logo. Just Bad A@@!!!

Since you don't like Warmoth and AllParts, the only others that I can think of is US Custom Guitars and Mighty Mite.

"Matte" is a type of finish. Are you planning on finishing the neck yourself? It's not recommended to play an "unfinished" neck as hand oils will quickly be absorbed into the wood...in fact if you get an unfinished neck and plan on finishing it, it's best to handle it as little as possible and wear latex gloves when you do handle it...the finish will tend to not adhere to any place on the neck where is was touched with bare hands.

Just some thoughts....

@zod: yes, the 70's style logo is pretty bad@$$.
@dedmouse: like the neck on any stratocaster. that kind of finish. and no, i wasn't going to finish it myself, i was wanting to know where i could get a neck that's already like that. that if possible i wouldn't have to order online because online never gets my order right.

The finish on my strat isn't matte. Be that as it may, there is no place I'm aware of that you can buy a neck that isn't mail order or on line. There are some places on ebay that strip new Fender guitars and basses and resell the new parts but they're pretty expensive, $300 and up...but you know they'd fit no problem.

it's an MIM strat made in the mid 90's...looks like a fat strat but I don't think that's really what it is. I bought it from a friend of mine about 10 years ago...MIM but has all MIA parts on it (bridge, tuners, p'ups, etc). The guitarist in my band is using it right now. He has about a dozen Fender Strats and Teles of varying configurations and he lusted over mine so much that I loaned it to him. It's the only strat he plays now.

I play bass in the band so I don't really need it right now.

Glad you found the neck you were looking for.

Care to share that information? Someone else might need it in the future. Thanks!

I would love to, but alas, he's a local guy. We ended up in his shop with the necks off our basses, he tried to fit his neck onto my bass, and it turned out a p-bass neck is too big. Apparently my bass has a jazz bass neck. So do you know anywhere where i can get a good jazz bass neck?
