Hi, I'm looking for a replacement pickguard for my '78 P-Bass in an Antigua finish. Any ideas? Thanks! MM

possibly here...

I also think that Warmouth will make any style pickguard you want (for a price of course).

ok, thanks for the suggestions but struck out on both counts. I'm likely to have to sell ny bass but I'd really like to make her whole before I do. Any other ideas? I've emailed Fender several times and no return response so far. I'd be happy for any other venues to try. Meg

Hi Meg,
The original antigua finished basses used black pickguards that were painted antigua or greyburst.

If the bass was played the finish tended to wear off and show the black guard underneath. This caused many owners to just replace the original with a black pickguard or remove the rest of the finish from the original guard.

You may have to get a black pickguard and have it painted to match your bass, which is not something that I think many refinishers are going to have much experience with, but you don't know until you ask.

Thanks BC for the suggestion. The finish on my bass is near perfect except for a crack on the pickguard at the plug when it was knocked off it's stand. I may have to see about having just the pickguard repaired because I've had about as much luck finding a new one in Antigua as I've had finding someone who can take a black one and refinsh it in Antigua. I'll keep searching though...Thanks again. Meg
