Hi to everyone in the Fender community! :D

Glad to be part of this forum.

I need some advice...I own a 1994 MIJ P-bass with Foto Flame finish and love everything about her except the rosewood neck although it's in very good condition. I'm looking to replace the neck with a maple one that i've been eyeing on eBay from a reputable seller. My concern is will this 70's made maple P-bass neck fit my MIJ hamburglar bass body?

PLEASE help a brother out!!

Thanks and cheers

I would keep the original neck if it plays well....jmo. Maybe sell it and get another P bass with maple.

I do plan on keeping the original neck, and buying a maple neck, but don't know if the maple neck i want (1978 P-bass neck) will fit with my japanese made body.

It *should* fit, but nothing is guaranteed...Of course, even if it's not an exact fit to the existing neck screw holes, it will certainly 'fit' as regards working properly once in position, so, even if you have to plug and redrill the holes in the neck, it will 'work'. The only possible downside id a loose fit in the neck pocket, but even that should be OK with good tight screws.

Do not be surprised if you find it doesn't fit precisely. It may fit ok, or it may not. The MIJ/CIJ instruments are not precise copies of the MIA or even the MIM instruments. They are not made on the same machines or using the same patterns. Moving around something as seemingly trivial as pickguards, even among MIA instruments of different vintages, often leads to frustration since designs, pickup placement and screw placement are often quite different. While the MIJ/CIJ instruments usually play very well and may look much like a MIA or MIM instrument there are usually differences in things like screw placement and pickguard shapes not to mention completely different electronics. They are more like reproductions than reissues. One example is the pickguard on the '51 reissue and the Sting bass which are both CIJ. Parts between the two are completely interchangeable, and you'd think the MIM Mike Dirnt pickguard would work on them but it won't. I know a telecaster bass pickup doesn't seem to fit as well as the original CIJ pickup either. The Sting/51 RI CIJ control cavity and control plate itself will not accommodate MIA/MIM components either.

Thanks brotherdave! I did find out the hard way when my chrome pick-up guard came and the screw holes on my MIJ bass were far more narrow than of the guard screw holes... :?
