Ha ha. I spent the 4th setting up the sound for a lake house party (at 3:30 pm, it was 103F), playing my Classic '50s Precision in company with the hostess, a great singer and keyboard player, and a longtime friend on vocals and rhythm guitar. Nine hours of work, a break to go watch fireworks, and enduring several "guest" lead players who ranged from awful to drunk and awful. Never mind: the rhythm section (thanks to a couple of rehearsals) was tight, the audience was tight, and everyone thought we were marvelous.

I had my Hartke stack, music for all the songs I hadn't learned yet, and we (that is, the rhythm secjtion) were all sober and ready to roll.

It was tremendous fun, mostly due to the male and female vocalists, who really strutted and pumped it out. I'd rather work on three chords behind an inspired performer than play jazz behind a mumbler. [Old joke: what's the difference between a country guitarist and a jazz guitarist? Answer: the country guitarist play 3 chords in front of a thousand people...].

Lord, I love that Classic '50s P! What a booty shaker.

I have gone from a Music Man HD-130 head + Hartke 410XL cab to an Ampeg B100R to what I use now, a Hartke HA2500 with 210TP and a 115TP cabs. The head weighs 20 lb, the 210 is 34, and the 115 is 50. Since it's modular, I only take what I need, which is usually the head and the 210. We were outdoors, so I took the big guns.

Not that we were blowing out everyone's hearing: volume was at a reasonable level where our audience on the grass could converse...and there was no dance floor, so I didn't need to do any heavy lifting with the P.

A friend recently bought a Genz-Benz Shuttle 6.0 and the 210T cabinet: 41 lbs, lots of power, a really tight bottom, even on 5 strings.
