Can I get a detail explanation about the differences between american precision bass and mexican precision bass bcos I need.a very clear mid tone and low tone bass rather than the others. But somehow I found myself a lot more comfortable to play mexican precision bass. However, I used to perform by using ibanez SR3000 prestige bass but I've planned to change my bass from ibanez to precision bass.

LOWZTRINGS, WELCOME to the forum.

That SR3000 has active EQ while the Standard Precision and American Standard Precision are both passive. If you are used to active tones then you may want to look at the American Deluxe P and MIM P-Bass Special. They both have active EQ and the tones may be more in line with your expectations.

I think the P-Bass Special is one of Fender's top values while the current American Deluxe P-Bass is one of the most versatile P-basses Fender has ever made.

Also you just might want to check out the Fender Jaguar Bass too. It is active or passive and has a very wide range of tones. It is worth a look too.

Thx bro, yes indeed my ibanez is an active eq bass thts why I wanna chg it to a passive bass bcos my stage performance is way to brutal to use an active bass. However, I already broke a few wiring inside my bass right after my bands performance :p. After tht I start to thinking about changing my bass from active to passive bcos I think a passive bass is way more saver to use on stage rather than an active bass. Finally I found this mexican presicion bass is very comfortable to use but I'm not really sure to change my bass.

I actually prefer a passive bass for almost everything. The Jaguar is switchable between passive and active.

In passive basses that sound amazing....you should check out the STING artist model P-bass and it's sister the 51 Reissue P-bass along with the MIM 50's Reissue.

I think the Sting is a little more comfortable to play through a long gig than the 51 RI because of the body contouring but they both sound pretty much the same stock. Both are made in Japan with incredible necks. They have a unique tone for sure due the lone single coil pickup. Both have solid ash bodies and maple necks and boards. I have found two aftermarket pickups that work very well with them also.

The 50's P-bass is a vastly better feeling neck to me than a MIM Standard P and the pickup sounds better to me. All around a great MIM bass and a step up from the MIM Standard model. This bass looks, feels and sounds great.

My next bass will probably be a Sting. I have an Ibanez active SRX700 and prefer playing my two first generation P-basses which are a '51 Reissue and a 54 Franken P-bass to the active bass. The passives just sound more organic, earthy and musical to me. For your style of music you may seek a completely different tone, but these basses are great for soloing and then you can back off and sit in the mix with no problem. I prefer them also to the 2006 MIM P-bass I had and the JP90 P-Bass I played for a decade. Both those discarded basses were really good instruments, it is just that I love the authentic tones from the vintage beasts.

Well, if you want to know the difference between a MIA bass and a MIM bass (besides the massive price difference), it's a lot of little things that add up to a HUGE difference.

The hardware, electronics, and pickups are far better on the american than on the mexican, and allthough those are all replaceable, that goes a long way. But the biggest difference between the two is the neck. The MIA bass has graphite reenforcement which makes the neck VERY sturdy and helps to get a low action. The fretting is amazing, and I've never felt a satin finish that feels better. All and all, I'd say the MIA is a considerably better bass and is worth the money if you're willing to spend it.

That being said, there are plenty of fantastic MIM and MIJ basses out there. Unfortunatly fender's jacked the prices for new basses, but you can still snagg some one Ebay for a lot less.

I agree what Brother Dave said about passives, they sound a hell of a lot better. I recomend the 50's precision bass, mainly because of it's neck and pickups. If you go for a standard instead, I'd fork over 70 bucks for a 62 reissue P bass pickup; they're way better than the stock pickups. I think the 50's p bass comes wtih a similar pickup to the 62 reissue (which are actually called "orriginal" bass pickups."

Another thing to keep in mind is changing the electronics on the ibanez. If you put in an Aguilar preamp and maybe some Bart pickups, you could have a new and better sounding bass. That said, I would still take the good old fender over a souped up Ibanez any day.

So far I can see that u guys r suggest me to look up for 50's p bass and jaguar bass right?. I was already checkin up the jaguar bass and but I haven't try it, when I see the picture I think jaguar bass is a vintage type of bass am I right? I really got interested on mexican precision bass bcos it sounds satisfied me for the mid and low tone that precision's have. But when I try the american p bass it sound really different when I'm slapping the bass. So I think ill try the 50's mexican p bass for sure. Is there any active 50's p bass? Anyway thx for the answers brothers.it helps me a lot bcos I never really like fender before. in my 15 years music carrier I never found fender has satisfied me before, coz I think ibanez is the god of mid low tone to play funk, hard rock and metal kind of music.but recently I think I was wrong and I should try fender.its a big step for me though.

Eh, I wasn't crazy about the Jaguar bass when I tried it. I am a jazz bass fanatic, and I have a series/parallel switch on mine, and I think it's a very useful feature.

I suppose it was the preamp that killed it for me. Fender stock preamps are very.... blah. At least you can go passive. As for the control layout, it's not insainly complex but also not the most convenient. I don't like having to switch in the pickups with those little switches, I much prefer a toggle or knobs.

I also have quams with the stock pickups, but it just uses mexi standard jazz pickups, which frankly aren't great. Luckily those are replacable.

If it was just the pickups and preamp that weren't great, I'd say it's worth it, but I guess the overal instrument just didn't hold together for me.

That said, a lot of people love it, so by all means try it out. Just bare in mind those little points, and that you can ALWAYS modify a bass to have any feature on the jaguar in a simpler layout.

Hi,
I agree with all the above, you have to find a bass you feel comfortable with first then the sound can be obtained via various methods. Remember
rosewood and maple necks have different sounds and you should choose
wisely here as they are a more expensive item to change.
I found my sound in a USA standard Precision fitted with Seymour Duncan Passive Quaterpounders coupled to an EMG stacked 2 band active EQ 18volt.
Then I discovered heaven by adding a Badass 3 bridge (pre-grooved) and a Graphtec Tusq nut. I use Ernie Ball flatwound strings.
All the above can make a difference to your sound, but you will find your sound eventually just choose a bass you feel you want to keep and experiment with
Good luck with your search

U guys r really have a great statements, cool! basically I also agree with u guys.I've already try out a several p basses and I found mexican p bass is the most comfortable for me. My ibanez is using singel coil bartolini's pick ups with an active eq, but I also boost it up by using 10 stomp box boss pedals which are limiter enhancer, bass eq, hartke bass attack, compression sustainer, bass chorus ( master effects ) flanger, bass overdrive, distortion feedbacker, bass synth and super shifter ( modulation ) and I use gallien krueger SR700 for my amp.I use d'addario nickelwound 0.40 and I don't do much to modified my bass or pick ups cos its completely already there, but as I can see to my specs I start to thinking hard to chang my bass bcos I need to reset all of those little pedals setting especially when I turn from ibanez to fender I think ill have a hell lot of job to do. But maybe I could use both in the different set up for each basses but it still need some observations don't u think?

Welcome to the forums Lowztrings. I play with active pups. The only thing dif't I do on my set up w/active v. passive is the compressor. I use more compression with my active, set to 6, and w/passive set to 3.5. All my eq and set up are all the same...well, volume wise I have more on the passive - thru the amp I mean. Good luck with any of the Fenders...I too had a lot of Ibanezes before, but I did have both at the same time.
