Sup guys, i just joined a while ago and im wondering if you guys can help me. I'm looking for a good portable bass amp that i can take to school to play on. I'm have a mexican made Fender P, and i really want an amp that i can take to school so i can practice on. I know they have mini guitar amps on sale at guitar center, but i dont think they have bass amps there. O, and i really dont care if it's a headphone amp, i just want to get some good sound out of a small amp. So if anyone out there knows about any good small bass amps, help me out man.

This should cover what you need, and it has some really nice features. SWR stuff can be a bit pricey, but you get what you pay for. Good tone, and dependable performance. Get used to spending money anyway...bassist equipment is alot more expensive then guitar equipment.

Thanks for the fast reply, but dam, thats a lot of money dude. I dont think im willing to spend that much on another amp. Its a lot smaller than the Fender Rumble 100 that i have, but i just cant afford that amp right now. Has anyone tried out some of the headphone amps? If you have, how are they? I may buy one of those, as long as they're around a hundred bucks. I appreciate the replies too, i didn't think many people actually went to these forums, thanks guys.

I just bought a 40 watt Peavey MAX112 for the preverbial $199.99, it has vintage and modern switch, headphones and CD input. I got tired of lugging my heavy stuff to small jams and gigs. It does OK for the price.

Glad this thread was started. I have played keyboards for along time and picked up a P-bass about a year ago. I also bought a Fender BXR 300. Now I need a small portable amp to take just to practice on. (would like headphone jack for late night practice). Also the BXR has just a 15 inch speaker and I am thinking of adding either a 210 or 410 cabinet...

Any sugguestions?

Thanks

what i did was i just got a mini guitar amp that kinda sounded more like a bass amp then a guitar one. it's not the best substitute in the world but it works. its called a Excel10 lead guitar amp. if you want a small inexpensive bass amp, look at dino amps they have cheap small bass amps. its either dino or called something like that.................

I bought a Peavey Max 112, 40 watt that sounds pretty good. Same price as the SWR but is 10 pounds heavier and with a 12" speaker.

how much can you afford and what are you using it for, just practice, small gigs, band practice? Phil Jones briefcase amps are good ~$650 and the Markbass combo amps are killer, but also expensive~$800-900.
For practice and "screwing around" I just use my B-DEC bass amp most of the time vs my other stuff a Mesa Boogie 400+ head, Mesa Boogie M pulse 600 head, and just got the sweetest/lightest Eden WTX 260 head (only weighs 3.5 lbs :). I'm looking to save up for a good lightweight 300 watt cabinet from Epifani, EBS, Markbass or Eden to go with the Eden head and use this most of the time esp when I have to transport stuff, but at the same time save my back from killing me.

In general try and buy as much as you can afford since it should last you as long as you take care of your equip and if possible buying the head and cab separately vs a combo is always best and with the newer lightweight heads and cab, you can get a good sounding system under 40 lbs. that can be used for venues upto small clubs. Down side is that this will cost you close to/over $1000.00 though.

I agree with bowhunterwt that the Roland Bass Cube 30 is an excellent choice, you get a very good sound for your money!

Right now on MF they have a bass clearance section and there's a Fender Rumble 15 on there for 110 bucks. Pretty good price, and supposedly it's only got some scratches. Good for sitting in your room and practicing.

If you want to play through headphones get a Tascam CDBT1 Bass Trainer. You can put a cd in it and slow it down to learn parts without changing the pitch. You can also plug an Ipod or other MP3 player into it. It has a built in tuner, eq, and several effects. It sells for around $100. I have used one for years and I really like it.

They also make an MP3 version which will allow you to slow down MP3s. That sells for around $200
