I havent changed the strings on my bass since i got it 3 months ago. The only set i have on hand though, is a 'stainless steel wound' set.

i know its going to be bright, but how will it affect the rest of the bass...i mean the bass isnt made of steel. lol.

Well, the strings you have now are likely either SS rounds or possibly Nickel Plated Steel rounds. SS rounds will wear frets, as will anything else, 'cept maybe tapes. However, that's years, and years down the road. I wouldn't worry about your frets, just find a set of strings you dig and go with 'em.

agreed. The Stainless Steel strings will cause more excessive fretwear than Nickel wound. Another option would be flats or half-rounds. No fretwear to speak of and they're good for years.

i wouldn't think it would affect you f board. but go ahead and try it out. i have some steel on my gibson thunderbird, and lasted about 3 yrs and didn't do anything significant. just try it out.
