Ahoy All!

First time here, but from what I've read there are some pretty learned folks here in things "Fender". Here's what I've got:

The neck is stamped 5SEP65C, easy enough, manufacture date of a C neck.

I was told by the guy I bought it from that the body was not original, and I'm trying to find its' age. The neck plate is an F series with the serial number 326608. I thought the previous owner said it was a '66 body, but the numbers seem to indicate early - mid '70's. Is this correct?

Also, "Philip Kubicki Guitar Technology California USA" is stamped on the body under the neck and in the electronics cut-out, and I don't think the pots are original.

I'm driven by necessity here. I may have to sell it if it's worth enough. Sure hate to, but times are tough and I don't play as much as I used to.

Any clues?

Forgot to mention, I believe it has the old spaghetti logo, too.

An F neck plate with serial 326608 is from the year 1971

We know the neck is from 1965.

Have you checked the pick guard for a serial number sticker, or the bottom of the pickups for a date number, either stamped or hand written?

Up until the mid 60's they had date codes in the neck pocket.

Thanks Mike,

The neck pocket had the Phil Kubicki rubber stamp in it, but besides that it has the numbrers 3650 stamped into the wood. the 3 and 6 aren't really clear, but the 5 and 0 are. It looks like some work has been done in there at some point.

The pickguard is not stock (brass), and the foam under one of the pickups just fell apart, so I don't want to look under the other one. I didn't see any markings though. They might be original. The pots are marked "Dimarzio". Were they standard equipment?

Buy that foam to replace the deteriorated foam underneath the pickup.

I am pretty sure your pickups are after market.

If you look at the 1970's stock pickups they all look very much alike and have a grayish look on the bottom

I think you're right about the pickups. Mine are black on top and bottom. I like the sound of them, whatever they are.

So I've got a '65 neck on a '71ish body as near as we can tell. The color is Butterscotch Blonde I think. Then again, it's been in plenty of smoky bars, too, so the color might not be what it started out as. It was a little beat up when I got it, and I'm afraid due to the folly of youth and not realizing what I had it's a little more beat up than it used to be. The neck is probably worth more on its own than as a part of the whole.

Thanks for the help. Feel free to add any info you want if you find out anything else.

Hey...I'd be interested in buying your bass OR just the body end, since the neck is likely worth the most.

I happen to have a couple of Kubicki necks and no Kubicki body to go with them. It would be nice to be able to pair one up to the correct body.
