I am looking to buy a bass with ser# MZ4088812
I need to know what type of wood the body is made of. It looks like ash but I can't be sure. The seller doesn't know. Is it possible to tell from the ser# ?

It is not possible to tell what wood was used on a bass from the serial number. I can tell you that your bass was made in Mexico because of the MZ prefix on the serial number.

We need picts to tell the wood type if it has a natural finish.
If it is a newer Mexican natural finish bass it is probably ASH.

If it is a color it is probaly basswood but it could be poplar or alder.

Please realize that these are all guesses.

Thanks that was actually a lot of help. It is a natural finish, # 21. The grain looks open much like ash but I just needed a bit of reassurance. Alder grain is much tighter.

Appreciations
