I am going to buy a new '09 MIM P-bass and I really like the looks of the gold pickgaurds that are on the '57 RI, but they are 10-holes. I would like to put a gold pickgaurd on the MIM p-bass but that is a 13 hole pickgaurd. Will it still work or not?

Why not just buy the '57 RI? That way you are sure it fits.

Anytime you try to move the pickguard from one bass to another you are going to have issues. Neck pocket profile, pickup location, screw hole alignment all could be different. Not saying they are different but could be. Also you will likely wind up having to drill extra screw holes which is rarely a good idea..

I would buy a bass that comes with the metal pick guard. If you can't afford it just play what you can afford and live with the standard pickguard. Once you are playing you won't care what it looks like. You will be glad you are playing and won't be caught up in the looks of it.

Why not look around for that color pickguard that is made for your bass?

I did it on my white MIM p bass. 9 of the holes line up and I had to drill 1 new one. Works fine. The white and gold anodized kicks $@!!
