Hello,

I play a blue flower precision, and a '62 reissue - both with Fender 9050M flatwound stainless steel strings.

A couple times during play, I suddenly felt a sharp pain in my index finger. After that, when lightly rubbing my fingertip, I felt what appeared to be a tiny splinter in my finger tip. I couldn't see it, but it felt like when you get a tiny piece of metal in your finger.

Not believing it was a splinter, I couldn't play for several weeks- just thinking I had hurt my finger somehow. Finally saw the doctor who confirmed and took out a splinter, after which my irritated finger quickly recovered.

Two weeks ago, it happened again. Couldn't see the splinter, but used a pin to pick at the skin until it felt like the splinter was gone. Now finger is fine again. I quickly changed strings and have been fine so far.

Anyone had this from playing flats?
Could it be fretwire splinters? It happened both times around the 9th fret on the low E string. The fret has minimal wear there.

I'm not clear on which bass this is happening on. I seriously doubt it is coming from the frets though. I use Thomastik-Infeld IN344's, GHS 3025's and GHS 3050 Regulars....never had anything happen like that. I've used the 9050's before too but not in the last 5 years or so. I never noticed anything like that with any flat. I'd send the offending strings to Corona Customer Service and let them examine them though. What strings did you put on them for replacements?
