I only have one bass right now and of course I want to put the best string for my use on it. I usually play pop-rock stuff, I use my fingers as well as a pick depending on the song.

I haven't tried flat strings on any of my guitars and I've heard that D'addario Flat Chromes are good and they also have the Half Round Strings, which is supposed to be half round and half flat kinda in the middle.

Have any of you tried these strings? What do you think? I'm torn on which one to try first.

If I could have only one bass it would have Thomastik-Infeld POWERBASS EB344 roundwound strings on it. Easy.

the chromes are a great string as in terms of flatwound but once they break in they have a very short sustain and flatwound thump with sum mids. for pop rock i think i would go for the half rounds they are a bit brighter and wont go as hmm i guess dead as the chromes.

I have tried the D'Addario Halfwounds. They were/are ok. I would use them again, if I really had to. I really like these, SIT Bass Silencers. http://www.juststrings.com/sit-nrl50105l.html
The D'Addario flats receive alot of praise, as do TI flats and LaBella. SIT has a set of flats, and they are reasonably priced. http://www.juststrings.com/sit-pf50105l.html The jury is still out on them, have had them on for almost 2 months. So far I am liking them. Deep and thumpy. JMO

Which one to try first? I am assuming that you have a P-Bass, since you posted this in the P-bass forum. Try some flats out. The D'Addario Chromes are usually easy to find in a GC or SA.
