The Fender Official Commemorative 2006 60th Anniversary Commemorative Made In USA Series instruments were issued in three color poly sunburst. They had white pickguards and came in a beautiful hard case with an anniversary logo on the lining of the lid. These are instantly distinguishable by the intricately engraved Anniversary neckplate and a ribbon decal on the front of the headstock near the tip with a simulated diamond in the center of the ribbon anniversary logo.

The STANDARD Commemorative instruments were made in Mexico in Blizzard Pearl, which I thought was a gorgeous color. The MIM Commemoratives had an Anniversary engraved neckplate and came in a special anniversary gig bag.

These were limited in all models but were not numbered in a series. Basically Fender limited production to all that they could sell in 2006. They were not as truly limited as the 1996 Anniversary Commemorative Series instruments which were numbered sequentially in a truly limited series.

All other instruments made in 2006 had a tiny Anniversary medallion, smaller than a dime on the back of the headstock. This leads to sellers claiming every instrument made in 2006 is a "60th Anniversary Model" which technically they are because they were indeed made in 2006, but unless they have the special neckplate and are in the correct colors and if USA made have the Anniversary headstock ribbon decal with simulated diamond in the special hardcase...the medallion on the back of the headstock alone does not make them more "special" or collectible in my view than a 2005 or a 2007.

Here's the specs on the Made in USA Commemorative P-Bass:
This version of the American Series P Bass features US Vintage pickups, custom case, tastefully engraved neckplate, and a jeweled headstock to commemorate the diamond Anniversary of Fender.

Jah, I watched your video. Nice Ampeg stack there! Good tight Ska band too. All the players are good. The audio has some sort of distortion in it but I got the general idea.

Like I said the number made was all they could sell and way more of the 06 commemoratives exist than the 96's but exactly how many more I don't know. They just made all they could sell in 2006 but only 500 of the commemorative series were produced in '96.

I have no idea beyond saying MORE. Perhaps someone from Fender knows and can post the actual production number.

I do know that you hardly ever see one for sale now. I coulda gotten one 3 years ago and did consider it. But I'm not really a collector. I actually play my basses out and those would be a collector bass. I'd wanna put a Wilde Bill Lawrence pickup and a Vitamin Q cap in it first thing and sweat all over it at an outdoor gig which would wreck any collector value instantly. LOL!

Other than the jeweled headstock decal, neckplate and case they were the same as any American Standard.

That is a special lady you have there. My wife would sell all my basses if she had her way! LOL

Later and Mahalo....

Hi Jah,

I sent a friend request from my band. So you'll see a friend request from KOLLECTION. I don't have a personal myspace page.
