John Entwistle Precision Bass Tribute, maybe built by the custom shop and modeled after his "Frankenstein" P Bass that he threw together. I would love to see one, but how does everyone else feel?

You have my vote. As you can see by my name, John is my favorite bass guitarist and is my inspiration. I've covereed all the English bands, Geddy Lee and Southern Blues. i always come back to John'n licks. I'm really quite satisfied with my 3 basses at the moment but, there will always be room for a Frankenstien.

There could even be a limited run of 57 instruments, for each year of his life

You know; that might be a really good question to ask Mike Eldred in his answers area:

The longer it takes to make the decision, the greater the chance it won't happen. If it does it will probably be an overpriced Mexican. Don't get me wrong, I'll buy one, just so it isn't Road Worn.

OK, F-M Thanks for the redirect.

If I remember correctly, there are contractual negotiations that have to be finalized between the Artist and Fender regarding the special issue products. Without an agreement and name recognition royalties, no Artist model can be produced. There seems to be much more to producing an Artist model than just putting a special options P or J bass package together and offering it for sale in someone's name.

It will be interesting to see what Mike E. has to say on this.

In the mean time, why not start a POLL of members here who would be interested in that particular Artist issuance to see what type of numbers there are out in bass-land. Without a market for a product, the product is not econmomically viable to introduce in the first place. Marketing surveys are just part of the decision making process.

This could be cool but (I'm sorry to admit I don't know) what's "special" about the bass?

I would say yes - if Squier then made a budget model like they did with the John 5 Tele. (I'm broke in terms of buying Fenders... bah, maybe someday...)

His "Frankenstein" was a Precision he had refinished in a salmon shade of red. The pups were from a slab bass and the bridge was from a Jazz Bass, pup cover was from a Jazz, bridge cover was from a Precision.

What made it special was the fact it was created from parts of destroyed basses, and the fact that that bass was on more of the classics than any other. In an old article, he said he always wanted a pink bass, guess that's why the color.

I've never seen a Fender Bass in pink but, there are a lot of copies like Taylors that come in pink. The founder of Taylor guitars was John's lead guitarist in his solo band, "Ox". The King Bisquit Flower Hour cd is a live recording. There's a great interview with John at the end.

One very cool variation on a Precision bass that could be associated with the Ox is the Special Slab bodied Precision Fender made in 1966 only for export to England.

These were 1966 Precisions with no contours, finished in blonde with black pickguards and maple capped fingerboards, giving them the look of an old precision but with a split pickup.

That would be a cool reissue.

Hope this helps:

This basically ties our hands in doing anything.

Also, go to Google and type in John Entwhistle bass and see what comes up.
Too much confusion over what he is associated with. It would be a "hard sell" to convince consumers (and dealers) that the Fender® would (or could) really be considered a John Entwhistle bass.

I can fully understand Fender's position re: an Entwhistle bass of any kind.
Their hands are tied.

I would just like to see the '66 slab bodied split pu P-bass reissued.

It doesn't have to associated with the OX but those of us in the know would understand the association.

I just think that it would be a cool reissue.
