The American Vintage ´62 Precision
Tell me guys what do you all think about this wonderfull re-creation of the ´62 model. I´m just totally in love with mine the tone of this bass is just fantastic! I also think that this bass deserves the price tag 1500 bucks! It´s like getting Custom Shop quality like the ´59 for 1500 dollars not like 2300bucks and up.
Everyone please share your opinions and experiences about this fine instrument :)

I bought a 1987 Re issue 62 PBass second hand as my first real bass in 1995. Great tone, it was a sweet instrument. The neck was never in perfect playability, even after some extensive work. Just sold it last year and bought an 08 Am Standard. The neck on the 62 is wider at the nut than a standard PBass. I wish I could have kept it, but I couldn't afford to own both.

That´s pretty sad that you had to sell it :( The thing about the neck is true it´s wider at the nut. I compared it to my HW1 P-bass and it has a more slender "faster" neck then the ´62 but anyways it´s a super confortable bass to play and enjoy :) Nowdays I´m saving up for a used late 80´s early 90´s sunburst ´62 like the one you had :)

The neck is wider and flatter front to back -- very comfortable to play.

The neck on the Vintage '62 reissue is very close to the neck on my 1960 Precision Bass. I think they are great, if you can get used to them but they are different than most Fender bass necks.

Well, it's a C-neck (1.75" at the nut) which is (or was) the most common P-bass neck. My 57 and 59 reissues as well as my 83 all have that neck. Today's P-basses, however, have B-necks (1.65" at the nut) which I think became more popular in the late 60s and 70s although C necks were still common. Jazz basses have always had A-necks (1.50" at the nut) so far as I know. There's more precise information on the web but that's the general gist of how I understand it.

Actually all bass models have had A, B and C sized necks sometimes during the same model year.
I have even heard of a D neck.
I played a V bass neck on an Antigua Precision bass back in 1980.

This is not so true today with CNC machining but back in the pre CNC days anything went in terms of bass and guitar neck sizes and profiles.

I'm sure you're right. For years the only P-bass I had was my 83 and I'd just assumed they all had C necks. Then a few years ago I became interested in buying Fenders again and discovered the B neck for the first time!
