Thunder Tabs appears to be down... The only trusted site I've used. Any alternatives?

I need to learn a bunch of new cover's for a new gig. Way easier to check out the tabs first and just make corrections by ear on them if needed.

That's the site that gave me Adware, Trojans... etc. My virus scan was going crazy quarantining stuff from that site. Pop ups left and right for porn and gambling. No thanks.

I have no issues there and I use Norton.

you must still see all those pop ups... I use mcafee and it updates daily. It has caught most everything (but the adware). I just don't want to risk something getting through. I had a friend who's whole computer crashed due to that site.

I use Firefox, with adblock plus, along with the Norton.

I quit using McAfee years ago. May I recommend switching to Norton. It is much better.

I always found BassMasta to be very well stocked with mostly correct bass tabs!

1. I use the Tab search engine at: http://www.911tabs.com/ which searches a whole bunch of Tab sites. There are links to the other 5 Tab sites I use on the BASS TABLATURE SITES PAGE which you can get to from the RESOURCES page in my signature.

2. I use TREND-MICRO Internet Security and the new Windows Live ONECARE online scanner tool which I also recommend. The ONECARE scanner is free. Here's the link: http://onecare.live.com/site/en-us/default.htm ONECARE is a good tool to use if you think you are infected and your regular anti-virus won't update or even load...which is a pretty good clue that you are infected. I also do most browsing in FIREFOX or SAFARI.

I used Norton for about 8 years and found it to be more and more of a resource hog with each new version so I switched to Trend Micro about 3 years ago. No problems with Trend Micro. I buy the 3 license Trend Micro Internet Security (not the PRO version) and it protects three machines with one purchase. It is very economical if you have multiple machines like I do.

Thanks for the comp tech advice. But it still doesn't change the fact that Ultimate-guitar is known for being a virus threat. Even with updated software it's usually just a matter of time before something gets through. What happened to Thunder Tabs?? Their slogan was "No pop-ups, spyware or other bullsh*t!".

That is interesting about Ultimate-Guitar. I use it and I've never had any problem with it. It might be because I'm not using Internet Explorer.

I also use an add-on for Firefox called "NO-SCRIPT" which makes it even safer. Frankly you can get scum-ware from about any website that accepts off-site advertising if the advertiser is malicious.

I'm pretty sure that Ultimate isn't the one doing those things on purpose. It is probably coming from a pop-up ad or banner ad that they have no control over. That is why I don't sell advertising on any of my websites.

Have you contacted Ultimate-Guitar about your problems? They would probably appreciate the feedback.

I use www.bassmasta.net. Great site with a good amount of tabs. I should note that I've also used Ultimate for years with no issues.
