I'm trying to get more information on this vintage fretless P-Bass.

http://washingtondc.craigslist.org/nva/ ... 68764.html

There is minor cosmetic damage on the headstock and the backside body of the bass. I would expect there to be some after 30 years.

I've contacted the seller and have been told that aside from the minor cosmetic damage, all parts/components are in pristine condition.

My question is: is there any more information you all could give regarding this bass, and, based on the price, is this something I may want to consider committing to.

Welcome to the forum!

Since this bass is a Frankenbass (mismatched neck & body years) it is accurately described as a "player's bass." What matters is how it plays and sounds. It is nice looking, it is Fullerton made. I think the body might have started life as an Elite I and not a "Precision 81 Special Body" as described. If FMIC confirmed that I'd ask to see the letter or email as they didn't make Specials in '83.

Just thought I'd point that out. This is the sort of thing where you have to play it and then ask yourself if it is worth it to you.

I'd think the price is fair to both sides, but I'd try getting it for less because he says OBO. So make sure they know this is the only time you can make the trip there because it is "so far from home" and lay down eight 100 dollar bills down and say, "Will you take that for it?" If not then I'd start putting down a 50 or two or three...and for sure I'd stop at $950. If they still want more I'd start picking the money back up. They may say, "Hey that is ok after all!" But that is just me. When people actually see the cash on the table they will often take less. Has to be cash though. Talking about money and actually showing money are two different things. :-)
