I have my Father's bass guitar. He passed away 2 years ago. I have heard his bass is rather valuable. I know it was his pride and joy. I have no one in the family to pass it down to. I thought this might be the right forum to find someone who really appreciates the quality, age and the love of another musicians instrument. I have tried to date back the serial #. It is 191791 with the large F . I think it dates back to 1967. It is in the original case, and only has normal wear. My dad never played it much in the last 20 years. I would love to know what you think the value would be and if any musician on this site may be interested. It is a Precission Bass, sunburst. I still have a set of strings he bought years ago and never put them on.
Thank you for any help you may offer.
Debilynn
I will post pics when I can find how to do it.

You can just upload the pictures on a photo server such as photobucket.com or imageshack.us and then just paste the direct links here so we can see it :)

The response to that serial from the Guitar Dater Project is:
"Your guitar was made at the
Fullerton Plant (Fender - CBS Era), USA
in the Year(s): 1966 - 1967"

So it was made between July 1, 1966 and June 30, 1967.

If you can't figure out how to post photos in the forum, email them to me and I'll post them for you. My email is on the CONTACT page of the website in my forum signature below. Limit photo size to 300 to 400 in width. Would be good to have the following shots full length front, full length back, headstock front and back, body close up front and back. Also describe any known modifications or defects.

Any estimate of value is condition critical, so the photos should be detailed, well lit and well exposed. Outdoor natural light seems to work well.

Looks a bit like The Funk Machine. (Except that The Funk Machine was a '62 P-Bass.)

Stunning condition and soooo beautiful... Those CBS times were a bit random when it comes to quality but since this one's from Fullerton I bet it sounds amazing. A real treasure.

Thanks Dave for posting the pics for me. I do not think the pictures do it justice. Poor lighting . Thanks for the compliments. It does have a great sound and is really in good condition. It was my father's pride and joy. I had thought about having a glass front cabinet made for it, and keep on display in my livingroom. But my brother amd I have no family to pass it down too. I might sell it to a musician that would really appreciate it for what it is.
Thanks again

Im in awe, That is one sweet looking Bass. Being it was your Farthers it's priceless. But a Bass with that date and condition is very valuable. There is no one who you could pass it down to?

[/b]Thanks Wilbur. My brother will take better pics with outside lighting. The ones posted now were taken with a cell phone. My brother and I have held on to it for 2 years after his passing. We do not have any immediate family to pass i t down to. But I know my father would love to have his bass played and enjoyed by another musician. I only play acoustic and keyboards. Thank you for the reply. Hope to have better pics in a couple of days.
Thanks a lot,
Debi

Beautiful bass, and a beautiful story!
Contact Gruhn Guitars in Nashville. They do appraisals and are VERY thorough.
That bass is worth good money, so be careful.

That's a beautiful Precision bass. Do a search on Ebay for completed auctions for original finish1967 fender precision basses and you will get an idea of what you have, that is assuming the bass is all original.

If you don't have the original Fender case, that will hurt the value slightly but that bass should bring some seroius coin.

Good luck.
