I don't know how much you want to spend, but the Fender Standard Precision Bass is a really good bass and way better than most people's first bass. There are lots of P-bass choices.

Part of which one to get depends on what kind of music you want to play. If you want to play slap style, you'll probably want an active bass. If you want to play classic rock, blues or country then a passive bass is good.

Make sure it is set up properly, often the factory setups can be improved upon which makes it easier to play. A poorly setup bass that is hard to play is not conducive to practicing a lot.

Let us know how it works out!

Thanks man,
But Im kindof a slap, rock-player bassist and I was wondering if you could elaborate on the different setups of the bass other than factory setups. Also, could you direct me to a site other than here that sells decently sold Basses. That'd be cool,
later.

Many, but not all, dealers will do a great set up on a bass before selling it to you. Factory setups can vary due to many factors. Shipping, storage, climate, etc.

In my opinion the Jazz makes a better slap bass than a Precision. An active P-bass is better for slap.

No other company I can think of offers as much variety within their line as Fender. There are lots of other brands that are gig worthy but a Fender is pretty much the standard. Even custom shops copy the long standing Fender designs.

A lot of what bass you buy depends on your budget. I can understand not wishing to discuss budget considerations in a public forum, so feel free to contact me directly through the website in my signature below so we can discuss your budget considerations.

The Squire by Fender Precision bass is a really nice bass for beginners. It isn't to expensive either. I have one and just modified a few things. The slapping and popping isn't a problem either.
