Now, I understand making musicial instruments is a costly thing to do. And, if they don't sell well, then it's a lost to the comp[any. Now, I know Fender likes to make profits from their products, but, at times, I question who makes the decisions to reissue which model and which year of that model. I been playing bass since 1969, and at that time, I wasn't really into Fender basses, until I tried out a used fender Mustang bass. Then, Salesperson, Told me about the Precision bass, and the fender Jazz. Now, at that time, the $@! basses, is all I could afford, and I must admit, I had a great copy of a Jazz Bass made by Kasuaga. Anyway, in the early 1974, I found out, I would get a tax refund and I was short about 40.00 dollars, to get a brand new fender P-bass, with a maple neck and a natural finsh, that appeared in the fender catalog at the time. The funny thing here is , this bass had a somewhat narrow width to it, and a unique tone to it. Now, some say, That bass had a ash body to it, but I heard also, that some of them came with a alder body. Some were light, and some were like a tank. My point is, I know the fender Jazz, is the flagship of the Fender Basses, but, The P-bass has it place too! It's the "real" groove machine, and easy to deal with. Two knobs and a lot of "punch". I would say, after 1975, The P-bass changed somewhat with those smaller Schaller keys, new decal, etc, but from 1970 to early 1975, those P-basses, was just as good as those from the 60's. The funny thing here is , from late 1969, until 1975, the P-bass, was either fretted or frettless, had a standard neck width, or a narrow(optional, back in the day) width, and either maple or rosewood fingerboard, and a slew of colors, and that plastic coating on them. If Fender USA, doesn't want to do it, give it to Fender Mexico. They have already, a 60's J-bass, and 50's and 60's p-bass. Why Not, A 70's? I know ,fender in Japan, is still making them, why not here, and they are affordable. So, in a way, the 70's p-bass, is a somewhat "60's" P-bass, with a different decal and some other "options"(back in the Day)!
