The VOX badge is missing on the black one. I don't know if it's somewhere among the junk in the loft or whether it has been lost. I heard that you can still get them. I'll have to check.

You'll get good money for them if you never use em. The loft/attic isnt a good place to store em for long periods without attention. If you haven't put em back up there wrap em with paper before you do.
Theres a great amp tech in nottingham who just restores or treats old amps.
Heres his page on vox restorations.

I could well be interested in buying one should you wish it to have a new home. Not for discussion on this site though, email me at the address i gave previously.

I've also got a WEM bass amp Because later on I began to play bass, which is why I bought the Precision from The Remo Four's bass player.

Hi Nik

I have had offers for them before.
Been tempted, but decided to hang on to them. Could be tempted again though.
As I said George Harrison used the blonde one to tune his guitar up and he was playing it for about 20 minutes. He said that he had not long fitted a new set of strings and was (as he put it) running them in.
The hall hadn't opened yet and we were all drinking coffee and hanging around until opening time with gangs of noisy teenagers waiting at the door.

Its the black one i'm interested in. It needs a lot of consideration.

Merseykid the link i put up for amp restoration is a good one. 58 bassman's run at roughly 10k in the uk these days. That guy works on em, employed by players of distinction. Just for your own info. I doubt i could afford a ac30 from yesterday nevermind 64.

Anyway, here is some more of "My sad story"

I got to the bakery on Wednesday at 7 o’clock
Everyone had arrived in plenty of time.
Jay was playing his usual favourite guitar pieces.
“Right, let’s see if we can get at least one number sorted, tonight” I said, looking meaningfully at Jay.
The others tried to look nonchalant and carried on strumming plucking or tapping their instruments as though nothing was amiss.
I set up the tape machine and began to play the Jimmy Justice record. “When my little girl is smiling”.
I always brought my own guitar along to the practice sessions and, me and Aussie began strumming to the music.
I had by this time bought myself a red Hofner Verythin.
Jay just looked bored and began playing a lead backing but without his guitar being plugged into the amplifier.
It wasn’t too off-putting so I put up with it so as not to cause any problems.
I was convinced that he would eventually settle down and fall into our way of doing things. The only question was how long would it take.

After a while Tony who had been plucking his Precision Bass, also silently, turned the volume up and joined in.
I stopped playing my guitar and just sat there listening for a while.
I re-wound the tape and played the music several times until both Tony and Aussie were satisfied that they had got everything they needed.
I asked Jay to try a lead backing and started the tape again.
His contribution was great and it wasn’t long before we introduced the drums.
Then it was my turn and I turned up the volume on the microphone, which was just plugged into Aussies Vox amp.
After singing the song a few times, I turned my guitar volume back up and began working out the backing harmonies with Tony and Aussie.
We went over and over playing the number, until we were all happy with the final result.
We then made a cup of tea with the electric kettle we always brought with us, and we sat around eating sandwiches.
It was about halfway through the time we allowed ourselves for practice.
I said “Come on Jay, give us a few of your favourite guitar pieces, while we have a cuppa”.
He looked pleased and began to play a medley of his favourite party pieces, most of which we had heard him play many times before. But they were still enjoyable.
He was undoubtedly a gifted guitar player. I felt that if only I could get him to settle, he could become one of the greats in Liverpool. Maybe even beyond our city.

When it was time to go home we had, at last, managed to add two more songs to our repertoire. It had been a good night.

Little did we know what was on the horizon and what would happen at our next practice session.
