Congratulations, that was a good investment 31 years ago! Depending on condition here is the southeastern USA they are bringing just shy of $1000 to about $2500 US Dollars. That would convert as 678 to 1696 British Pounds or as 754 to 1886 Euros. If truly exceptional and 100% original (except strings) I would expect you might could get more. Original USA case, original case candy and so forth bring more too. It is my understanding that Selmer imported Fender instruments to Europe without a case and the cases were made there.

I've also heard that Selmer sometimes would do a refinish on a new Fender before selling it as new. This refinishing mostly was on Stratocasters to convert them to Fiesta Red as the demand by Hank Marvin fans in the UK for a guitar that looked just like his was overwhelming! I've never heard of any refinishing on new basses by Selmer though, however I'm the cautious type.

George Gruhn of Gruhn Guitars in Nashville, TN will give you a precise evaluation of your instrument's value for a modest fee. He is probably the number one authority on guitars in the world. To start that process click the INSTRUMENT HISTORIC DATA link on the RESOURCES page in my forum signature below. The link to his appraisal service is listed last on the Historic Data page. Mr. Gruhn will do a written appraisal via emailed photos taken to his specifications. Even if you aren't planning to sell it is a good idea to have him do an appraisal on vintage instruments for insurance reasons.

Hi Dave

Thanks for your reply interesting price, the guitar is immaculate with only a few nicks here and there, yes your right i did not get a case with the bass i had to buy a hard case but its not a Fender. I live in England and was just curious as i thought it was worth alot more than i thought. Everythings original except the strings. i think i need to think of some kind of insurance i have kept it for sentimental value and feel i cant break ties with it.

regards
