That's a great idea, but not many people are going to buy a bass and take it apart to Frankenstein it like that. Fender should just make one. I think any P-bass player would want one. How many people didn't buy the CS Pino just because of the price? Now that it's discontinued Fender should make a cheaper version.

Barring that, doing it your way is pretty damn smart.

Yeah Theo's got just about every Fender bass made. His collection is pretty darn cool.

In my case, I've got TI flats on an AV 57 P-bass and to my ear it sounds every bit as nice as the Pinos I've heard. Those strings are a big part of the sound.

Fender should make a non-custom shop version of this. Even if they change the color or don't use the aged hardware. This is such an amazing instrument that there should be a less expensive version like they made for the Jaco bass.

From what I've heard no stores have the Pino in stock anymore.

Theo did that and he already owns a CS Pino! He bought a fiesta red MIM P-bass, swapped out the maple neck for a rosewood and the gold anodized pickguard for a tort. Now he's got a real Pino in relic form and a copy in mint condition.

Edit: Here, found one of his pics showing some of his basses. The real Pino is in front, the one in the back is the one he put together:

If it ain't Fiesta Red, then it isn't going to be my next bass.

It does come close when you use TI flats.
Still the neck is a little to wide and the PU is not the same........anyway great player big sound.
No one knows the difference when I play on stage.
My soundman once said "Did you clean the PINO, it's like new again"
I said :"Yes great shine dont you think.........."

Cheers,

Theo

Those guitars are beautiful. What did it cost to make the Theo-Pino?
