I played the Pino Palladino bass at Guitar Center in Hollywood. Everytime I went in there I would play it. I finally bought it. This thing is amazing. I love how playable it is, and it's tone is killer. This is the best P bass I've ever played. I would have bought it sooner but it was kind of expensive... but I love it!

What is the going street price for one if these? I can't see paying too much since I imagine any good CS Precision with TI flats will sound just as nice, but I do like the look.

Most places that still have them are selling them for around $3,100. I got mine cheaper because it had the old price on it. The list price according to the 2008 Fender Catalog is $4,726. I can't imagine anyone is really selling them for that price.

They are hard to find, but I think if you find one you can get the price down.

I changed the strings to round wounds and it's really sweet sounding. I had to adjust the action a little bit, but it's f@*cking great.

If you don't mind, how much was it out the door? I'm thinking of buying one & want to get the best price possible.

Best,
-john

Send me a private message with your email address. I've been buying things at that store for 15 years and the sales people really helped me make a deal, including some trade-ins. I don't think I should be laying it all out on a public forum.

Certainly. My email address is kinetic at hotmail dot com. I really appreciate it. If it's not too late, tonight would be great. I'll check my email in a bit. The PM function says it disabled for this forum. Not sure why.

Best,
john

Whoa! You got rid of the TI flats?! They're what makes this bass sound so good!

I didn't get rid of the flats. I very carefully removed them and put them away so I can put them back on if I want.

Fender should make a non-custom shop version of this. Even if they change the color or don't use the aged hardware. This is such an amazing instrument that there should be a less expensive version like they made for the Jaco bass.

From what I've heard no stores have the Pino in stock anymore.

Theo did that and he already owns a CS Pino! He bought a fiesta red MIM P-bass, swapped out the maple neck for a rosewood and the gold anodized pickguard for a tort. Now he's got a real Pino in relic form and a copy in mint condition.

Edit: Here, found one of his pics showing some of his basses. The real Pino is in front, the one in the back is the one he put together:
