Hi, I bought a 51Reissue PBass from the bass emporium last month. Nice instrument, I've gigged it every weekend since.

I just bought new strings for the bass. They are the same strings that Fender says are stock with the instrument (Super Bass 7250ML, p/n 073-7250-005). The problem is that the black silk thread at the post end of the string doesn't clear the nut. I can't return them because I've cut the A string.

Whats up with that?

One more thing. The strings that were (still are) on my bass have no black thread anywhere on the string.

The strings pictured on the 51 reissue on the Fender website have no black thread.

The SB7250MLs that I opened have black thread! Also, the strings that came on my bass are 45-105. The 7250MLs are 45-100.

I'm thoroughly confused at this point.

Try Fender 7150M guage...that's probably what's on there.
Great strings, BTW.

Hahaha! 7150s don't work either!? C'mon man, I can't use Fender strings on my Fender bass (without peeling back thread)? Enough of that business. Maybe Fender should update their website, the info there on what ships stock with this bass is wrong and misled me.

^Well, of course I will. The problem is that I liked the original strings and Fender lists them as the 7250MLs on this very website. So I bought them. Thats NOT what they are. They aren't 7150s either. What are they? Even Fender customer service doesn't know.

I have the 7150s on there now that I'll play for awhile. Nice strings but I had to peel the thread back with a razor blade to make them work. Not again. I'd like to use Fender strings but since no one can tell me what strings are stock on the bass, I guess I'll be using something else in the future.

I have the exact same reissue and issue.... just found out last night.

I bought two sets of 7250ML's online and put a set on last night. I haven't taken them off yet to strip back some of the cloth. Not one of the strings clears the nut with the cloth. Big tone difference with these strings too, I kind of like it.

I'd really like to know what the original strings were AND be able to buy them.

Hmmm...I wonder if the set of strings that are designed for the string through body basses have this same problem. (they are wrapped, but they have the tapered E string and are supposed to be made for STB's)

As far as the stock strings I've no idea either, just sold my split coil P's for a 51RI btw, which I am picking up on Thursday...awesome bass. I'll probably end up going with flats anyhow so I won't be as irritated. lol

The 'correct set' is 8250s. Any Rotosound set will fit without this problem also.

8250s are not the correct set. No taperwound E. This website is wrong and every bit of info I've gotten has also been wrong. Even from Fender customer service, who I thought would know. They don't.

Thanks for your reply.

What I meant was, that these strings are the recommended ones for STB basses, and they will fit. Fender does get this sort of thing wrong more often than they should...

Perhaps this should be asked in the Accesories section of the site, and made attn: to one of the mods? Perhaps, Someone could get ahold of someone at Fender Japan and find out exactly what strings come stock on these basses and if it's at all possible to get replacements.

I just bought one of these basses also. It has flat wounds on it. I never thought the strings DIDN'T go thru body. I looked at the back no ball ends, its got the covers on so I peeked under there and sure enough. The bridge was changed to a 4 saddle top loader! No biggie it also has the string thru holes. BTW is this a retrofit part that comes with them new?
I play steel but bought the bass for kicks and so there's one around for jams. MY question is this: I like Flatwounds, is there a set long enough to go thru the body? Does anyone use metal Upright Bass strings ?

my MIJ Fotoflame P-Bass did not come with any standard Fender string listed in the product section.

I think Fenders and Squiers that are manufactured in Japan, Korea, China, Indonesia etc are NOT strung with Fender strings, or if they are, they are made in those countries specifically for those basses.

My MIJ had roundwounds with blue silk. Those don't exist in the Fender catalogue.

So you might was well get the 8250's or buy an "extra long scale" set of strings ... i think Rotosound have them.

But i always gelt that Fender makes very long sets... like around 38.5" length... why don't you string it without cuttin the exposed wire that isn't covered by the silk?!
