I keep a soft cloth (an old white T-shirt with no printing) in every bass case/bag that I own. that way when I finish playing I always wipe down the bass and get off most of the fingerprints, sweat and dirt that can accumulate over one session.
I also periodically use some non aerosol guitar polish on my basses that have the new look still intact.

If you do this, your bass will stay in near new shape. Some will not like doing this and their basses/guitars will show the dirt and fingerprints in every picture, at least until the wear down the finish from leaving all of that dirt on it. -I guess that's what caused the original Relics! LOL

I comes down to what you want to look like onstage, and how concerned you are about preserving the new look of your bass(es).

Same thing here my friend. I hated myself when my ´62 re-issue got scratched for the first time accidentally.

Day one of elementary band class. You usually get rule 1. "Never let anyone else play your instrument." I've stuck to that. Good rule.

ahh, i love how all you guys hate dings/scratches, i love them! everytime i see one i go , cool!! another ding! and it just means my bass is beeing used.

i mean, i hate the brand new/shiny look, and i like the vintage/torn up look, but i dont believe in relicing. i believe it just has to happen :P

I like to keep my newly bought basses looking new and clean. I have some older basses that are already chipped and scratched so they are the ones that I can play hard.

I can see the point of just playing your bass/ guitar and not worrying about the appearance. It is certainly less stressful to do that, but my old habits die hard and I keep my instruments in as good condition as I poss. can.

Just like a new car, a new bass is something to be kept up IMHO.

I use Dunlop #65 Polish/cleaner and a old sock or the untreated Fender cloth every other day or so... dings and scratches are cool. Finger prints are not. I wanted Olympic White... but got Black instead
