I bought a precision bass in the early 80's. Is there a website where I can find out what year it is by way of the serial numbers?

You can click on support and get a phone number or, be patient, there will be at least three more responses to tell you what to do.

AND...here's the first....

Go to the RESOURCE page link in my signature, scroll down to HISTORIC DATA category. Links are there that go directly to the official FENDER serial dating keys.

PLUS there is one other very good link which is the GUITAR DATER PROJECT FOR FENDER and links to this project are just below the official Fender links. I've tried the Fender Dater Project with a couple of basses of precisely known vintage and the software was right on. NOTE: The box to enter serials in is at the very bottom of the GUITAR DATER pages for some reason, I guess so you'll read the ads. But it works!

Ibanez serials have often been impossible to decrypt, but the GUITAR DATER PROJECT FOR IBANEZ is also right on the money and in three cases that I tried it nailed down the MONTH and specific plant of manufacture in Korea. Pretty cool! Ibanez dating has always been a treasure hunt at best with multiple dead ends to boot, but no more!

Regards,
Dave

This is true as there are some good people on these forums. I know I don't belong on the Bass forum but I wanted to "Welcome You to the Forums!"
