Has anyone else noticed the significant price increases? I'm waiting now for "factory rebates".

I realize prices and costs are rising but, times are a little bad at the moment. I just have to question the powers that be at Fender.

It comes down to, do you want Fender to carry on trading or to fall by the wayside?

By no means. It seems that every manufacturer is run by their accounting department. Save a nickel heere, a dollar there, raise prices just for the fact you can. It all catches up.

I'll always play Fender guitars but, guitar manufacturing is not a conventional business. Looking at the product lines they're trying, I really have to wonder the direction of the company. I'm old enough to remember when CBS bought them, that wasn't good.

I hope they stay in business for a long time.

I surely noticed that too earlier this week. OUCH! While one may question the wisdom of such a significant price increase right now, do not lose sight of the fact that this increase means the value of all your Fender instruments have increased too by just about as much! I'm already seeing higher prices for Fender basses on eBay. So it is a two sided coin....a door that swings both ways...one hand that washes the other...(insert your cliche' here.) It isn't all bad and your existing Fenders just gained value.

Your local dealer may sell existing stock at the old price if you hurry. Now is the time to pull the trigger if you can afford it.

Anyone that wants a last minute bargain should shop around.

You can still get the old prices from at least one of the online dealers I do business with. The link to that one is on the RESOURCE page in my signature. The one I'm talking about is the FOURTH dealer listed under the heading PURCHASING NEW GEAR ONLINE. I suggest you hurry as they are the last one with the old prices right now.

If a mega-corporation like General Motors can be broke and on the brink of bankruptcy as their auditors announced this week, then relatively little guys like FENDER have to be scrambling to avoid a similar fate!

You have to hand it to FENDER because they haven't had to go to congress for a bailout yet!

Don't forget your local dealers. I'm not talking about Guitar Center or Sam Ash. I mean the locally owned shops. Most of them are trying to find ways to stay in business. Stop by and visit them and buy something if you can. eBay is awash with stock from local shops that are closing or trying to save their business. I like supporting my local music stores. We have two here and one of them has been in business since the 1920's. The other is a Fender dealer and I've bought numerous Fender basses and guitars there over the years. If they close, I can get by, but I will certainly miss the personal service. These local stores will be missed.

I agree as to using local dealers. I always try to give them whatever business I can, the problem is, availability. So few within 45 miles have anything that I 'm interested in. My playing is mainly a hobby but when I do make a purchase I buy what I feel is the best.

One thing I'll mention, the local shops don't reflect price increases like Guitar Center does. Their old stock costs as much as their new. I've called them on that by the serial numbers. Of course they will bargain, they're too big not too.

It's sad to see the way small business is falling by the way, let's just hope the little guys survive this storm.

I understand the mom and pop shops need sales and I try to use them as much as possible, especialy for work but when I need something and am tight on loot I'll hit GC and play the little kid "it's too much right now. I only have $25 on me". Depending on sales for the day, especialy around 4 pm since it's been slow most of the day they'll deal a bit more. The used skb 4 space head case I found was listed at $50 and I walked out with tax for $38.

Mayne there will be those here who disagree but, considering how big Guitar Center is, I don't feel guilty about haggling.

Go to Wikipedia and see just how big they really are.

I purchased my Am Standard P Bass just after the price increase, but was able to pick up one of the last ones in stock at GC. At that point anything ordered was at the new price. Didn't get the color I wanted, but no worries, saved almost $400.00

I think the reason for the price increases were the road worn basses.
I think someone at fender realized, few people were going to pay 1oo more for a beat-up bass made in mexico.
I have played road worns, they didn't really stick out me, I would rather have an American Standard, or if I really had to have a nitro bass, an 62 reissue.

Agreed. The 62 reissue is a real gem. The MIM 50's basses are pretty nifty too. I've been using one for the last several months.
