Where is the truss rod adjustment on this? Headstock or neck heel? This is the MIM one with reverse tuners right? I'm thinking of ordering one because they come in Fiesta Red. I dislike the neck heel truss rod location on the 51 Reissue. Since this one has the same vintage frets and reverse tuners I think it might be the same neck on both. Thanks, Dave

to adjust the truss rod, you have to remove the neck because it's on the heel of the neck

It's such a cool bass tho! but i put a fretless neck on it, and black pickguard, so you wont recognise it anymore. Are the road worn series like the identical guitar, but with scuffs on it? and also, do you know pickups the classic series 50s p bass comes with?

I bought a Classic '50s P in fiesta red about three years ago, and it has become my numero uno. Great sound, great thump.

The fairly chunky (by today's standards) neck is thinner than the '51 RI (I also have one of those) but for people who like skinny Jazz necks, it may mean an adjustment. My favorite feature of the neck is the smaller frets, which allow me to get around a lot faster than "medium jumbos" as on the typical P bass. I can also do slides almost like on a fretless.

It's true, the neck must be removed to adjust the truss rod, but in three years (in humid East Texas) I've had to do that exactly once, about a week after I got it.

I'm loving mine, and there's a local studio player who says, every time we meet, "when are going to sell me that orange bass?" Right now I'm doing a lot of guitar playing, and the bass has made its way with a close friend to Dallas for more gigging.

I sorta wish mine were honey blonde, but the color's not a deal breaker -- you can't hear paint.

Oh yes, and I put the obligatory flat wounds on it.

Not a big deal IMHO. I've been told that the neck should be loosened when making adjustments anyway.

Yesterday morning, with a 150-mile trip to Houston in the offing (my daughter's friend's wedding), I went to the local roadhouse for a heart attack breakfast, in the expectation -- borne out by experience -- that I wouldn't eat until late in the evening. I ran into a drummer with whom I have played many a honky tonk gig, and he and his wife and I sat down to breakfast together. We discussed the band we'd been in, and the personalities, and the music, and other matters (he's the girls' basketball coach for a local small school district), when he said, "Do you still have that orange [fiesta red] bass?" I assured him that I did, indeed.

"I'm a drummer, and generally, I can't tell one bass from another. But that orange one had a special sound. It really cut through and gave the band some punch!"

Just so's you'd know.

He's back to playing with a Jazz bassist, and didn't sound too excited about it.

Thanks! I hated to do it, but I took off the pup cover,
didn't care for my tone 'tween the covers ..... cover seemed to be getting in my way.

Well, I put my pup cover back on tonight, gonna give it a try playing with it on again.
I don't play 'tween the covers that much, ( I mentioned that I wasn't liking my tone there) usually over the pups or towards the neck.
Kinda depends on the song and where I'm playing on the neck.

I got one about 3 weeks ago and love it! I am more of a Jazz Bass guy, but I really like this bass! Great for blues! I threw on the PU cover so I have a better spot to anchor my thumb....plus I like the way it looks!
