hello everyone!

It's my first post here. I am interested in finding out more about an old P-bass that is for sale. It's really old and beat up and I need authenticate it's a real Fender and not a knock off. I have some pictures but don't know how to add it to my post.
From what I can find out it's supposed to be a guitar from the sixties. but 2 things about it makes me suspicious. 1. The cavity routing looks very very amatuerish and rough. 2. The position markers for frets 1, 3, 5, 7 and 9 are large round inlays, about 10mm in diameter.
What is everyone's opinion on this guitar?
Thanks[/img]

Welcome, we'd probably have to see them.

I've looked in the FRQ area and can't find any instructions on posting photos. If it's like the Gibson forum I will need to have the photos store online somewhere etc etc and I don't have any of that.
Other forums posting photos is just like attaching picture to emails. :?

You do need to have the pics hosted elsewhere and it's like that on every forum I know about.

Let me explain you how to post pics:

1. You have to find a host page for the picture (Imageshack.com, picoodle.com, or another one)
2. Upload your picture to the chosen host page.
3. That page will display an html code, which is a long code with letters signs and numbers.
4. Copy that code (ctrl+c) and paste it to your message in this forum (ctrl+v).
5. you will see the picture once you submit your comment.

Hope this helps...

Stimpy, WELCOME to the Fender P-Bass Forum!

I will look at your pics for you and see what I can tell. Go to the link in my signature and click CONTACT on the main menu, top right and email them to me. Once on that page you'll see my email address.

Since you can't figure out how to post them, I will post them for you. Also advise any visible serial numbers. If it is really old, they should be on the neckplate. Later they started putting them on the headstock next to the decal. Some imports, like the Japanese ones have the serial on the back of the neck just above where the neck joins the body.

Regards,
Dave

We need the pictures or a directive as to where we can see the pictures. Now I know that you don't want to have to bid against another user or users of this forum, but if you want our help, you may have to reveal the source of the ad showing this bass.
All kinds of mods are made to Precision basses. Most that involve routing are bad news for the bass and kill the value on resale.
You say that there is a large rout under the pickguard and that some inlays have beed done to the neck.
All of that can be fixed but It will cost to do the repair and that cost should be reflected in the price of the bass.
Good Luck
